Fall is fast approaching. Early in the morning you can almost smell it! It makes your heart skip a beat and gets you ready for light jackets, apple cider, beautiful foilage and some outdoor festival fun. There is nothing like fall in North Georgia. Here are a few family friendly “can’t miss” events!
For some of you, fall just isn’t complete without an apple festival. We’ve found two spectacular events that are right up your alley!
Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge is a wonderful place to take the family. They offer many varieties of U-Pick Apples, as well as Fried Apple Pies and, of course, Fresh Apple Cider. Mercier Orchards offers a tractor pulled cart that takes you around the orchard and beautiful grounds. Be sure to check out their bakery and store where you’re sure to find those fresh apple pies as well as a wonderful selection of jams and jellies, syrups and sauces. Another lovely event is the Apple Pickin’ Jubilee at Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay. Hillcrest Orchards always has something fun scheduled but if you’re looking for apple picking, this is the place for you! The Apple Pickin’ Jubilee offers up the opportunity to pick your own apples, enjoy nature trails, milk a cow and enjoy the petting farm. Cost $5.00 (Petting Farm is an additional $3.00)
The Apple Pickin’ Jubilee runs Saturdays and Sundays through September and October. 9am-6pm

Apples have their place and are quite delicious but a few of you are looking for something with a little more bite! The Miller Lite Chili Cookoff is a spicy event that’s sure to please. Held at Stone Mountain, this family friendly event is a wonderful way to spend the day. Located on the Coliseum Meadow at Stone Mountain, 100% of the proceeds from this event goes directly to help the children of Camp Twin Lakes (www.camptwinlakes.org). This chili cookoff is the largest held east of Texas and is always a hit. With over 300 chili booths you won’t walk away hungry. Entry into the cookoff gets you free chili samples all day, 6 hours of live music, games, prizes, giveaways and more!
The Miller Lite Chili Cookoff is Saturday September 26th 10:30am-7pm at Stone Mountain Park (Special Event Parking- Coliseum Meadow) Unless you have an annual Stone Mountain Park pass, you will be charged $10.00 per vehicle.
