Looking for paradise? Some say it exists in the Caribbean islands. The most-visited and the largest of these islands are Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. Those 5 islands make up what’s known as the Greater Antilles. But the many Lesser Antilles islands are just as beautiful.
Saint Lucia is known for its musical and folk culture. Surfers marvel at the thought of catching the waves in Barbados, home to the Soup Bowl. Head to Tobago to experience the tropical rainforest reserve. The U.S. Virgin islands and the British Virgin islands both offer breathtaking scenery.
Although all of these islands (and more) are located in the Caribbean, one island’s weather may not mirror the next. Changing winds, location, storms, and a variety of other factors can contribute to variances. Though, all of the islands do have a tropical climate.
Lounge on the beach or attend a local festival. Not much into either? What about nightclubs or great food? The Caribbean has it all. Grab some local fair trade produce and clothing to enhance the experience. Local crafters likely have some nifty décor you can accent your home with.
Want another way to relax in the sun besides the beach? Try sailing. Fishermen can also enjoy boating in a different way. The crystal water offers an abundance of opportunity. For the more daring, there is also snorkeling and deep-diving. The Caribbean is definitely the place for the adventurous type. Then again, it’s also the perfect spot for relaxation – the best of both worlds.
Currencies will vary, depending on which Caribbean island you visit. This is something all visitors should check well in advance. The Caribbean islands are also referred to as the West Indies by some. Government is also variable, depending on the island you choose to visit.
