Anyone who watched their local news at noon probably saw the same disturbing video that I just did. It shows a woman walking up to a cat who comes up to her quite willingly; she pets the cat for a few quick seconds, then glancing around furtively, she makes a quick grab for the cat, scoops it up and dumps it into a trash can that is right in front of her, closes the lid and walks off like nothing ever happened.
Being the animal lover that I am, I was appalled at the overwhelming meanness of that act. I was happy to hear that the poor cat was found, finally, after being in that horrible trash can for 15 hours and that she is none the worse for her smelly captivity, but police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Well, I should hope so! The story that I heard did not say if it was the woman’s cat or not, but that shouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference. Here is a heartless human being who for no reason that we can see, just decides to dump the cat into the trash. She did not know if the cat would be found and probably hoped she would not be, if her actions are any indications of her feelings. The cat was not doing anything wrong and had not threatened the woman in any way. It was just an evil act of animal cruelty, luckily caught on tape for the whole world to witness.
My hope, and I will be following this story closely, is that the woman gets some jail time to think about what she did. She should serve at least 15 hours of her time in a tightly closed, smelly room filled with garbage, not knowing if she will ever be set free or not. Let the sentence fit the crime.
