Prickly heat is a red rash that appears when a person sweats and the sweat glands become blocked. This rash can cause intense itching, or a ‘prickly’ feeling (how it’s name came about). It eventually goes away on its own, but sometimes you may need to seek medical attention for more severe cases.
Prickly heat can usually be found in folds of skin, or in on neck, chest or shoulders on babies. Extra exercise, clothing, medications, overheating and creams that block sweat ducts are some main causes of prickly heat.
