Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio has once again been chosen by Amusement Today as the best amusement park. This is the 13th year that the park has been chosen for such a prestigious honor. They have also been chosen for the best steel roller coaster with Milennium Force. Owned by Cedar Fair, the same company who owns Kings Island makes this one of the most recognized parks in the world.
Cedar Point is located on a Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio. The park is located in an area that is easily traveled to by car, bus, and airline and is within 120 miles of any major Ohio city. It is also easily traveled to from several surrounding states. This makes the park even more appealing. The park has been open since 1892 when the first wooden coaster was added to the park.
The park is very clean and the staff is friendly. The admission price is reasonably equal to most other amusement parks across the country. Regular admission for guests over 48 inches tall is $45.99 for a one day ticket not including admission to Soak City. For guests under 48 inches tall and anyone age 62 or older, admission is $19.99. Parking is $10 per day for all cars.
With Cedar Point being named as having the best steel roller coaster of any amusement park, it is obvious that they operate several coasters, but they also offer thrill rides, family and kids rides, and water rides. Cedar Point is home to 17 roller coasters that all offer a different experience to the riders.
The Blue Streak is a wooden roller coaster. This is built in traditional style and has been an important part of the park since 1964. The Cedar Creek Mine Ride is a frontier experience that all tourists will enjoy as they are on a runaway coal mine train. The Iron Dragon will allow park visitors to swing from side to side while on the coaster. One of the most unique coasters in the park is the Wicked Twister, a tall coaster that launches you both forwards and backwards.
If you are looking for height or speed, Cedar Point will deliver. The Top Thrill Dragster will thrill even some of the most dedicated coaster riders with it topping 420 feet in the sky at a speed of 120 mph. The Top Thrill Dragster is one of the fastest and tallest coasters in the world and is known to be the “World’s First Strata Coaster”. Millinium Force is a 310 foot tall steel coaster. The third steel coaster is the Magnum XL-200, which broke several coaster records in 1989 when it first opened.
Being named one of the best for 13 years makes the staff well aware of what is expected of them and has taught the staff that being friendly does have its’ advantages. Visitors can visit the park and stay in one of the resorts that the Park offers. I recommend that anyone who lives close enough or happens to be visiting the Sandusky area, visit this park as there is something for everyone.
Although it was not named for having the best kid’s area, Cedar Point is owned by Cedar Fair which also owns Kings Island. Kings Island was named for being the best in the kid’s area and so it is as if Cedar Points sister theme park won that award. Both parks have plenty to offer the visitors and each offers a unique park. If you happen to be in the Ohio area, be sure to stop at Cedar Point or Kings Island or both and enjoy the amusement park experience.
