People Magazine has reported that Canadian singer Celine Dion, age 42, has given birth to fraternal twin boys. The boys were born via C-section around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at a West Palm Beach, Florida hospital.
The newborn twin boys weighed in at 5 lbs. 4 oz. and 5 lbs. 10 oz. They are healthy and doing well. However, they will remain in the hospital for at least a few days due to being born premature. The boys were not due to arrive until around the end of November. In fact, Celine had been admitted to the hospital earlier in the week and put on bed rest to try to prevent an early delivery.
The twins have been named Eddy and Nelson. Eddy is named after Eddy Marnay, who produced Celine’s first five records, and Nelson is named after former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
In addition to the newborns, the singer and her husband/manager, Rene Angelil, also have one other son together, Rene-Charles, who is 9 years old.
Those familiar with Celine’s story know that she has had a long struggle with infertility. She became pregnant with all of her children through in-vitro fertilization. This particular pregnancy did not occur until the sixth in-vitro attempt. It is obvious that persistence paid off with this double blessing.
