It might seem odd but it appears that nearly every city in the Sacramento area has its own Mongolian Grill restaurant. These are not chains but individually owned restaurants. Some cities in the Sacramento area such as El Dorado Hills even have two Mongolian Grill options. Folsom has one Mongolian Grill food option. The Folsom Mongolian Grill is very popular. If you are wondering what makes the Folsom Mongolian Grill so popular then you will have to read on to find out.
Chang’s Mongolian Grill is located at 631 East Bidwell Street, Folsom, California in the Dollar Store Marketplace right next to the Dollar Store. Chang’s is particularly popular with both locals and is a popular lunch spot for the Intel crowd. Lunch is cheaper and all you can eat but to be honest one bowl is about all you can eat if you make sure to get lots of food in your bowl. The lunch is about $8.
When you first come to Chang’s Mongolian Grill they may seat you or tell you to find a place for yourself depending on how busy they are. Once you are seated or told to you can go to the back of the line and start making your food. They have pork, beef, and chicken to choose from. A good way to make your bowl bigger is to put the meat down and squish it together and push it to the sides making a larger bowl. you can make a much larger bowl by using the meat for the sides. Many Intel employees turn this into a sport and even most regulars who may not get as imaginative get into seeing how much food they can get. As much as patrons may want to get two bowls worth of food it seems that the chefs want to consolidate it to only one. Also remember that once the food is cooked it will get smaller and you will lose some of the food in the cooking too.
After picking your meat and improving your bowl size you can pick the noodles. The big noodles cool quicker if you do not like hot foods or have time to wait for the noodles to cool. A mix of noodles is a good choice. The noodles can also be pushed down creating a bowl for the next food.
Next you get to put vegetables and other ingredients. They have carrots, peppers, onions, and other ingredients to add to your bowl. At the very end you can ask for squid but you have to know to ask they do this so only regular patrons will ask otherwise you will not see the hidden squid. However you may not want the squid. You then get to put sauces on. You will want to use some sauce to help the food cook. However to much sauce will make the food hard to prepare and give you lots of sauce at the bottom. They have some sauce ideas that you can listen to or try your own mixture.
Finally before you give your bowl to the cook they have parsley and one of the best ingredients of all the pineapple. Make sure to leave room for the pineapple and to get plenty of it because you will lose some in the cooking process.
Now you give the cook your bowl and watch them grill is on the large round Mongolian Grill. There is a tip jar to leave a tip. If you got lots of food they will have to use two bowls. It is often a point of pride to fill up a bowl enough to need two bowls. At lunch it is not really necessary because you can have all you can eat but for dinner you get one bowl unless you pay more for all you can eat and then it is worth getting lots the first time. There is also a small towel to clean your hands off when they hand you your bowl back.
Besides the Mongolian Grill they also give you a soup and some other foods at your table. At the end of the meal if you still have room they have some treats including Jell-O and soft serve. The soft serve is the popular choice. With the soft serve you can have it in a bowl or cone and put on the toppings you want.
While Chang’s Mongolian Grill is great I should warn you that it seems the have MSG in the food. I have had a problem of getting sick the last times I have gone. I tired eating less, using mild sauces, less sauces, etc. but nothing worked. A friend of mine said he asked them and they said they did have MSG in the food and that he has the same problem to food with MSG. While they did not tell me themselves a close friend claimed he was told that. So if you are allergic to MSG you will want to stay away. It is very sad that I can no longer eat there.
As long as you do not have allergies then Chang’s Mongolian Grill is a great place to eat. It is a popular Folsom food spot and worth visiting at least once.
