Christmas is just around the corner. That means it’s time to start planning for some great events and activities that will be happening around the Chattanooga area this year.
Beginning on November 19th, the Tennessee Valley Railroad will be taking 75-minute trips to the North Pole to see Santa Claus. You and your child can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while being entertained by storytellers. When you arrive at the North Pole, Santa will board the train and visit with the children before you travel back to the station. It is sure to be an evening you will never forget. November 19-January 1, go to Rock City to see the Enchanted Garden of Lights. Rock City will be lit up with over a million lights in over 30 holiday scenes. Visit with Santa and his elves. Decorate cookies, drink hot chocolate and much more.
Rock City is also having a Dinner with Santa event on December 15th and 16th. Guests will get dinner with Santa and VIP passes to the Enchanted Garden of Lights. For more information, see the website link at the bottom of this article.
The Southern Belle has several special cruises planned for the season. Beginning on November 26th and running through December 18th they will be having Christmas Carol Dinner Cruises. These cruises will include live entertainment and Christmas Carols, along with a dinner of Prime Rib and Shrimp Creole. Santa will be on board to join in the cruise.
They will also be having a two-hour luncheon cruise on December 4th, 11th and 18th with prime rib and Christmas music.
If you have little ones, be sure not to miss Breakfast with Santa on November 27th. Have breakfast, and get pictures with Santa. Then you can see the Grinch, decorate cookies, and take a cruise on the Riverboat.

On the evening of November 26th, be at Ross’ Landing on the Riverfront in Chattanooga, to celebrate the Grand Illumination and Christmas on the River. Watch the lighted boat parade, see Santa Claus. The Lindsay Fussel Dancers and Choo Choo Kids will perform. Topping off the evening will be fireworks and the lighting of the Chattanooga downtown.
The Chattanooga Starlight Parade that has been tradition for many years, will not be taking place this year. An article on WDEF.com says that Chattanooga does not have the funding for it as they usually do.
The Red Bank Christmas Parade will be on December 3, 2010 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Santa Claus will be there for pictures. For more information, call (423)875-9515.

Santa will be at Northgate Mall from November 20th through Christmas Eve, and Hamilton Place Mall from November 5th through Christmas Eve this year.
Diet Pepsi is sponsoring Magic Snow at Northgate Mall. Between November 20th and December 24th at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., Northgate Mall will turn into a winter wonderland, as snow falls from above.
