So you want to get a good airsoft gun, but those rows and rows of plastic at the store are just a bit too confusing. Don’t fret, you’ve come to the right place! This simple how-to guide will show you what airsoft gun to get to match your preferences and price range. I recommend though that you do a bit more research besides reading this article. Being well educated will help you make a better decision and feel happier about what you buy in the long run.
Before you decide to buy a gun you need to consider how much you’re willing to commit to airsoft. The best guns are fully metal and run on electric batteries. These often go for 300 to 500 dollars. Don’t worry though, you won’t need one of these for your first gun.
Now it’s time to look at places to buy airsoft guns from. There are numerous airsoft websites such as hobbytron, airsplat, evike, and many more; but for the purposes of this article I’m going to assume that you’re looking to buy a gun at a local store, such as Gander Mountain, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or even Wal-Mart.
I recommend that if you are willing to spend 50 to 150 dollars you either buy your airsoft gun from a camping or hunting store or even put the effort into finding a good gun online. If you are going to be spending less, Wal-Mart has decent beginning guns, but many of the brands sold there are a bit notorious for breaking easily or being unreliable.
For your first gun, i recommend something that is spring operated and has an FPS (feet per second) of over 250 (300 if you’re spending $50 or more). Spring operated guns are usually very reliable, and the higher a gun’s FPS is the faster and farther the pellets go. The gun you want really depends on your tastes. I have to warn against rifles made by Panther Arms or clear Crosman shotguns, as they tend to break easily. Crosman pistols are quite reliable, accurate and cheap, but many people warn against getting spring pistols. Personally I like mine a lot, and it has served me well. DO NOT buy a sniper rifle at this point. Most sniper rifles around this price range really only look like sniper rifles, and don’t have a better accuracy or range than other airsoft guns. Real airsoft sniper rifles often cost upwards of $100. Electric guns are a lot of fun and are quite enjoyable, but it can be hard to figure out how to use and fix them.
If you see a gun that you want, I recommend that you do a little research on it and look up reviews before you buy it. This can save you a quite a bit of grief.
Make sure you buy ammunition and safety glasses too.
Good luck and have fun airsofting!
