Christmas has always been a special holiday for my family as we strive to make the best on what little time we have together. Alcohol is also a welcome visitor on that festive day with Mimosas often being served with the breakfast bacon.
My favorite Christmas story involves the year my younger brother received a BB Gun.
It was a cold snowy day and as usual we were all gathered around the livingroom picking up discarded wrapping paper and making piles of the presents that everyone had received to take to their homes. My Mom had begun taking down that ornaments that had special meaning to her, mostly just stuff me and my brother made back when we were in school.
Suddenly a popping sound went off as well as the sound of shattering glass. I looked up and my darling baby brother had just shot a ornament off of the tree. I am not sure why we all found it so amusing but it soon turned into a family event with all members partaking in the shootout at the Christmas tree. Even dear old Granny got the gun and fired away! It was one of the most enjoyable holidays I have ever had.
The aftermath was not so pretty with broken glass needing to be swept and there were some bb holes in the wall but nothing of epic size. Overall it was a great day filled with many laughs, great pictures and fond memories.
We continued this tradition for a couple of years until the babies came and then the gun was placed in the top of the closet. I will forever cherish the great days of the shooting with my family.
