Decorate your home this Christmas with some homemade crafts that you kids can make using construction paper. It’s amazing how much decorating you can do with construction paper and glue. Your kids can make Christmas tree garland, Christmas ornaments, place cards for Christmas dinner and art for your refrigerator.
Construction Paper Santa
Cut a circle out of pink construction paper. This circle will be Santa’s face. Then cut two triangles, one out of red paper and one out of white paper. Make the base of the triangles the same width of the pink circle. Glue the red triangle on the top of the face for the hat. Glue the white triangle on the chin for the beard. Cut two black circles for eyes and a little red circle for a nose and glue them in place to make the face. Then cut a white mustache and glue it on under the nose. This Santa makes great refrigerator art or wall art.
Construction Paper Ornaments
Cut simple shapes like circles and diamonds out of two layers of construction paper. You can use the same color construction paper or two different colors. Place a cotton ball between the two shapes and secure the edges of the ornament with glue, staples or tape. You can decorate the ornaments with glitter, stickers, etc., if desired. Punch a hole at the top of the ornament so you can hang it in the tree.
Construction Paper Garland
Homemade chain garland is always a Christmas craft favorite. Just cut strips of construction paper about 3/4 inch wide and 5 inches long. Form a ring with one strip and secure the ends with glue, tape or a staple. Then pass another strip through the ring and attach the ends of that strip. Continue until you have the length of garland that you need.
Construction Paper Place Cards
Let your Christmas dinner guests know where to sit at your table by putting a place card on their plate. A place card can easily be made by cutting a rectangle out of construction paper and folding it it to form a tent. Then write the name of the guest on the place card. Then decorate the place card as you wish.
Construction Paper Christmas Tree
A construction paper tree is a fun craft that can be used in many ways. Make big trees to decorate your holiday table or make tiny ones to hang in your tree as ornaments. Simply cut two matching Christmas tree shapes out of green construction paper. You can make the shape a simple, long triangle or you can cut with jagged edges to give the look of branches. Then cut a slit up the center of one piece, cutting only half way, and down the center of the other piece, cutting only half way. Slide the two pieces together and you have a cute 3D Christmas tree!
