Oklahoma is a great place to be for the holidays, there is always so much to see and do, and this year will be no exception. Here is a short list of things to do in Oklahoma City this holiday season.
DOWNTOWN IN DECEMBER
Downtown in December started back in 2002 and ever since then it has become one of the great events in Oklahoma City. Downtown Oklahoma City is a bustling place with great restaurants and great attractions. Downtown in December will start on November 26th and will run for a full month. There will be outdoor ice skating, snow tubing, water taxi rides, as well as beautiful decorations and displays.
HOLIDAY RIVER PARADE
The Holiday River Parade is sponsored by Devon Energy and it is always a spectacular event. The event takes places on the Oklahoma River In Oklahoma City. There will be over 20 boats on the Oklahoma River that will be decorated with lights, as the boats go down the river the sky will be lit up with a spectacular firework display. The Holiday River Display will take place on December 4th and the best place to view will be at Wiley Post Park. Parking is free and activities begin at 6pm.
CHICKASHA FESTIVAL OF LIGHT
The Chickasha Festival of Light is not something that you will want to miss. The Festival of Light has been running for 17 years now and it attracts people from all of the country. The Chickasha Festival of Light completely covers a park in Chickasha with over 3.5 million lights. The lights attract over 300,000 visitors every year from every corner of the nation.
YUKONS CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK
If Chickasha is a little far to drive for you from Oklahoma City, Christmas in the Park in Yukon is another great alternative. The light display covers over 100 acres. You will drive over 3 miles while you look at the spectacular displays. If you do not want to drive you can walk, or even better you can take a horse drawn carriage ride. Bring a coat, and some hot chocolate and it will be an experience you will not forget.
STOCKYARD CITY COWBOY PARADE
Oklahoma would not be Oklahoma without Cowboys! The Stockyard City Cowboy Parade features Local Rodeo Cowboys, over 100 longhorn steer, antique cars, dog groups and native dancers. After the parade children can visit Cowboy Santa at the Rodeo Opry and have their picture made with him and receive a fun toy. The Parade takes place on December 4th at 10am.
These are just a few of the events in Oklahoma City for the holidays! I can say I have attended all of them in the past and highly recommend them to all!
