So, you went to the store, or browsed online, and you caught a glimpse of those outrageous prices on Barbie Christmas clothes? You went home, or logged off, and now poor Barbie has no Christmas clothes or accessories. That’s a shame! But, really, she does! At least she will have after you give some of her existing clothes a make-over. You don’t need many supplies at all to turn ordinary Barbie things into Christmas clothes and accessories.
An old red stocking with the white, fake fur works well to make many accents for the doll clothes make-over. Apply glue to necklines, cuffs of long sleeves, hemlines, or straight down the center of shirts, dresses and other things. Cut snippets of fur from the stocking and pat them onto the glue. Or, glue the white fur across straps of shoes or around the handle of a purse. You can even cut pieces of the red stocking and use them to make simple pockets for certain outfits. Keep in mind that changes you make to the outfits or accessories are permanent once they’re glued in place.
Chenille pipe cleaners work to give a Christmas look to many different items of clothing and assorted accessories. Shape pieces of white pipe cleaners into circles and glue them around necklines, sleeve cuffs and hemlines. Pieces of the white chenille can be glued onto purses, shoes, sleepwear or even hats.
Of course, not all Barbie clothes can be changed to make Christmas outfits. Stick with clothing that has a simplistic look for best results. The colors of clothes you make over can help you create the ideal Christmas ensemble. It’s nearly impossible to make colors like orange, yellow and black look like Christmas outfits. Colors you can easily work with include red, green, white, blue, purple, gold and silver.
A permanent marker with a fine tip is a great way to make t-shirts, sweatshirts and other Barbie clothes have a Christmas theme. Simply write or draw on the cloth to create the message or details you want. Write “Merry Christmas” on a sweatshirt or just draw holly leaves and berries around the neckline of a t-shirt. The markers make it easy to add tiny Christmas accents or holiday greetings.
When you add glitter to certain outfits you instantly create a holiday theme. Apply red or green glitter to necklines and hemlines or draw a design with glue and sprinkle on the glitter. Do the same on the front of a purse, down the sides of pants, around the edges of shoes and even on certain pieces of jewelry.
Barbie deserves to have a nice Christmas and beautiful holiday clothes, doesn’t she? Don’t go to the store and pay big bucks; look around your house for things you can use to create a Christmas theme for pennies. Additional things you can use to make over doll clothes includes nail polish, tiny beads, little buttons, shirt paints, holiday fabric, felt or even cotton balls!
