This isn’t a story about memories that I have had but more a story of memories that will be made. My baby boy’s first Christmas is right around the corner, just a few weeks away now! My wife (Danielle) and I are starting to get ready for Knox’s 1st Christmas. Now that Halloween is over, we can take down the Happy Halloween signs throughout the house and start to put up the bells and garland. Christmas has always been an exciting time for Danielle and I.
I am the kind of person that gets up at 5 o’clock in the morning on Christmas Day and wants to start opening gifts right away. Danielle is one that can sleep until 10 o’clock, then slowly wake up and make breakfast and get the day going before she even thinks about presents. It drives me crazy!! We have learned to compromise over the years by me waking up at 5 and waiting until she wakes up, usually around 7:30 because I am purposefully making noises so she can’t sleep.
This year will be different however. We have Knox with us now. He will be 6 1/2 months old at Christmas this year. I’m sure that means we will be up early no matter what, since he has yet to sleep through the night. Poor Danielle won’t get to sleep in again and this time I won’t get the blame. Sounds like a win-win situation for Daddy!!
I am looking forward to this Christmas more so than ever. Danielle and I have already decided that we are not going to get each other anything and focus all of our efforts (and money, haha) on making Knox’s 1st Christmas a great time. I think we are already done purchasing toys for him (I’m sure Danielle won’t agree though). We got him just about everything we could find that was 6+ months in the toy aisle.
I realize that he will probably have more fun with the boxes and wrapping paper this year but we just couldn’t resist. Its so much fun to get him cool toys to play with!
So this Christmas is going to be a change for us, but I know it will be a great one. I am looking forward to the days when Santa comes and asks me for help putting toys together to put under the tree. This time, I will just enjoy the holidays with my family.
