The battle of Ohio means much more to the Cincinnati Bengals than the Cleveland Browns on October 3rd. The Cincinnati Bengals are 2-1 as they enter this game against their fellow Ohio NFL team with the Cleveland Browns without a win to show for the 2010 NFL campaign.
Carson Palmer threw for only 195 yards against the Carolina Panthers and his best receiver was rookie tight end Jermaine Gresham with 59 yards receiving. Terrell Owens was Palmer’s second best receiver with 42 yards receiving. The relatively anemic offense of the Cincinnati Bengals is quickly becoming an issue as the meat of their schedule approaches.
Passing Attack of Cincinnati Bengals & Cleveland Browns Very Similar
The Cincinnati Bengals passing game has struggled to gain an identity after all the boastful predictions from Terrell Owens and Chad Ocho Cinco. Neither Owens nor Ocho Cinco could be considered the number one receiver on this team.
Two rookies, Jermaine Gresham and Jordon Shipley have made their mark on the Bengals already and the future looks bright. The two veterans must start producing now to take the pressure off of Carson Palmer and the running game for Cedric Benson.
Seneca Wallace is the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns so that will give an idea of the shape the Browns are in at this point of the season. Wallace is serviceable at quarterback but he will have to do better than the 18 for 24, 141 yards performance against a tough Baltimore Ravens defense. Passing attack edge goes to the Cincinnati Bengals over the Cleveland Browns.
Ground Game of Cleveland Browns Progressing While Cincinnati Bengals Regressing
The Cleveland Browns have set their former running back Jerome Harrison to the side in favor of new addition Peyton Hillis. Hillis is knocking of tons of yardage in his new spot as the number one running back. Add to Hillis the threat of Joshua Cribbs in the wildcat and the Cleveland Crowns can win games on the ground.
Cedric Benson leads the running game but has been inconsistent in the position of number one back. Benson rushed for 81 yards in the Cincinnati Bengals win against the Carolina Panthers. It is possible Marvin Lewis and his coaching staff for the Cincinnati Bengals finally realize they need to set up the play action pass with a good run game. Ground game edge goes to the Cleveland Browns.
