There are literally hundreds of things you can make from simple clay pots, but when it comes to their matching saucers, it’s much harder to turn them into useful things besides what they were designed for. That doesn’t mean they absolutely have to be used along with a clay pot; use the terra cotta saucers to make a tiered arrangement that can become a serving tray, a planter or something else.
Choose three different sizes of clay saucers to make the tiered stand. You can choose the sizes you want but they should descend in size. Wipe them down with a damp cloth and allow them to dry thoroughly. Paint the pots the color you want. You have a huge amount of choices. Paint them with gold or silver paint to create an elegant look for a serving tray. Or, paint the saucers with other colors to make a planter. Paint all three saucers the same or make each one different. Paint the outside and inside of the saucers the same or paint the insides different colors than the outsides. Use a clear-coat, spray-on lacquer to seal the terra cotta saucers after the paint has dried.
Decide what you want to use as the separators for the tiered saucers. One cute look is to use two candlesticks as the separators. The candlesticks can be most any shape or size but need to be tall enough so that, after stacking the saucers, there is ample room between them to put things in them. Other things you can use besides candlesticks include large-diameter dowel rods or even painted cans.
The type of glue you use is all-important. Regular hot glue or white glue will not do the trick. Check your local hardware or home-improvement store for a suitable adhesive. Read the labels yourself or get help from a store assistant.
Set the largest saucer on a flat surface then glue the separator to the center of it. Now stack the second saucer, the next separator, then the last saucer. Make sure the glue is completely set on the piece before adding the next and the next piece.
Use the tiered arrangement to hold fruits and vegetables on a kitchen table or to hold fake plants on a table. Make really tiny versions and set them on a fireplace mantle or make one to organize small things in the bathroom. They look really nice and have many different uses.
