A 2010 Silver Spoon Award winner from Cleveland Magazine, Angelo’s Pizza in Lakewood, OH is a popular place for pizza on Cleveland’s west side.
In 1981, Thomas Kess opened a pizza shop across the street from Lakewood High School. It was a tough economic climate so he sold video games in addition to pizzas just to get by. After years of hard work Kess attended the American Baking Institute and made frequent trips to Chicago to perfect his craft. It is from there the dough and sauce that are made fresh daily and make Angelo’s what it is, got its beginning .
Doug Copeland from Cleveland, OH states “A pizza I suggest at Angelo’s in Lakewood is a deep dish, alfredo, spinach, and pineapple! It is outstanding. I’ve done it with bacon on there as well but it’s still great without. If you go there on Monday nights and dine in, whatever pizza you get is 1/2 off! So a $18 specialty pizza will only cost you $9! Pretty good deal.”
The menu is pretty standard for your typical pizza place. It is the crust more than the sweet sauce that is the attraction to this establishment. I found the pizza to be above average at best but it deserves a second look as it was a half-off Monday when I dined here. For a half off pie however, hands down worth the hard earned money paid.
