The New York Times blog, The Local, reports that the Putnam Candy Store was robbed just nine days before the busy confection celebration of Halloween.
The crooks entered the store near Grand Street around 6PM and shot one man in the leg. The scoundrels then made their way to the back of the store and forced store owner, Smalls Henry, to surrender all his cash at gunpoint.
“‘Get down on the floor,'” Henry told The Local, recounting the event. “‘Give me your money.’ I got down on the floor and gave him my money.”
The 75-year-old Henry chuckled as he told reporter Celia Gorman that he might not renew his lease next year. “I don’t feel like going through this,” he told her. “Get a gun pointed at my face for two or three dollars.”
The crooks reportedly made off with only $260.
