With all of the pedestrians in Brooklyn, neighborhoods are calling for traffic calming efforts. Park Slope’s new bike lanes were a result of resident’s demands to slow down traffic and now Clinton Hill residents want to address the same issue.
The community is asking the Department of Transportation to make some changes throughout the city. It has been proposed to place curb extensions at the intersection where Atlantic, Underhill and Washington Avenues meet.
There is even an online petition for sidewalks to be extended into the parking lanes on Atlantic Avenue. The petition also highlights how many times cyclists and pedestrians have been hit at this intersection. Residents can express their opinions on traffic calming proposals at the next DOT meeting on November 17, 2010.
