I have a huge kitchen floor done in tile. It is difficult to take care of for several reasons. The first problem is the light color that I chose. Don’t ask me what I was thinking on that one because I really couldn’t tell you. It just seemed like a good idea at the time.
Second it has white grout. Dirt loves to sneak down into those little crevices and cracks and turns everything an ugly shade of gray or black.
Third, is a floor that begs to be cleaned the old fashioned way; on your hands and knees. Back in my heyday that wouldn’t have been a problem. However, these days, it is a real pain in the knees.
Consequently, I must do the floor by hand regularly. In between, I use the Clorox ReadyMop with its Absorbent Mopping Pads. But do these pads work?
According to Clorox, their ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads safely and effectively clean all types of floors. That includes ceramic tile, linoleum, marble, vinyl and wood.
Clorox also claims that ReadyMop pads can tackle the hardest jobs from dirt, food, grease and scuffmarks. It is also supposed to eliminate stickiness and stains.
Additionally, Clorox claims ReadyMop pads are absorbent enough to pick up spills and trap dirt inside. They aren’t supposed to leave anything behind.
Finally, Clorox claims the pads are easy to apply and to use. It is only supposed to take seconds to get ready to do the job.
I have good news and I have bad news, as the old saying goes. Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads deliver on part of those claims but not so much on the others.
Claim #1 has to do with floor safety. Do Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads clean the floor without damaging it? I can only speak to two of the five types of floors listed (e.g., ceramic tile, linoleum, marble, vinyl and wood).
My bathroom floors are linoleum. Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads work very well on that surface. They skim over the top, removing the surface dirt easily. A little elbow grease applied with pressure makes certain the pads also pick up any ground in dirt on these smooth surfaces.
My kitchen floor is tile. Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads work only moderately well in this instance. Once again, they are great for removing the top level of surface dirt and even some of the deeper dirt, when you apply the right pressure. However, the pads cannot get down into the grout crevices to remove dirt that has been trapped there.
My daughter has tried this product on her wooden floors. She does not recommend it for that surface unless you use nothing but water in conjunction with the pads. That, unfortunately, would mean you would likely only be removing surface dirt once again.
On this claim, Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads gets a rating of 3. While the verdict is still out on vinyl floors, I suspect these pads would work well. However, the claim to work on wooden floors is less than accurate.
Claim #2 is that Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads can tackle the hardest jobs. That includes picking up dirt, food, grease and scuffmarks. Once again, the reviews are mixed.
Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads do pick up surface dirt with ease. They even manage to pick up some of the ground in dirt with proper pressure application. They can also pick up fresh food stains with ease. If the food stains are a bit older; however, the pads have a much more difficult time delivering on the claim.
Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads do not; however, pick up neither grease nor remove scuffmarks. Grease is simply spread around rather than actually being picked up. Scuffmarks are not affected in the least.
On this claim, therefore, Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads gets a rating of 1. These pads are great for surface dirt, and moderately good for ground in dirt that isn’t pushed into a crevice or crack. They do not; however, work for dirt ground into grout, for grease removal or for removing scuffmarks. That’s three out of five to the negative.
Claim #3 has to do with the absorbency of Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads. These pads are very absorbent. I can do my entire kitchen floor without having to change pads. They also pick up the liquid associated with spills very well and they pick up and hold in the dirt.
On this claim, Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads gets a rating of 5. This is where this product shines.
Claim #4 has to do with the ease of use of this product. Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads are easy to use. Their clever design makes attaching them to the ReadyMop a breeze and they remain in place until you remove them.
On this claim, Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads gets a rating of 5. That makes the overall rating for this product a 3.2 or just slightly above average.
Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads are made especially for the Clorox ReadyMop. Eight, 8.5″ by 10.5″ pads come in a box, which retails for around $4.
Clorox ReadyMop Absorbent Mopping Pads can be found at many large supermarkets as well as at discount department stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart.
I can, in good conscience, only recommend these pads for surface dirt removal. While they might remove a bit more, you have to wonder just how clean the floor really gets when the product misses the dirt in cracks and crevices.
