Last summer when former Royal Oak City Commission Stephen Miller left the City Commission a lot of discussions occurred within the city about the conditions former Commission Miller left under.
Today we learned that former Commission Miller left his post due to his fellow City Commissioner’s behavior, more specifically the fact that Royal Oak City Commissioners were in violation of the Open Meetings Act last year. Former Commissioner Miller felt that the Commission was becoming more and more political and once they began meeting behind closed doors outside of the public’s view, and against his wishes, Miller decided resigning was his best option.
Miller rescinded his resignation, but four member of the City Commission accepted his resignation a week later causing Stephen Miller to file a wrongful termination suit among other allegations ranging from violating the Open Meetings Act and civil conspiracy.
This is troubling for the tax payers of Royal Oak as our City Commissioners believe they can meet behind closed doors outside of our public scrutiny, deciding on important city issues without the transparency required to ensure objectivity and fairness for all of Royal Oak’s citizens.
To encourage the Royal Oak City Commission to uphold their oaths to office and abide by the Open Meetings Act call 248.246.3200 and express your desires, after all, they are there to serve us the Royal Oak taxpayer.
