It’s out in the media spreading like wildfire that the common cold virus is now the culprit behind obesity in children today. Honestly, I do not make this stuff up, I had to conduct a search and read twice on this one. We are not talking small media sources, these are some mega hitters. MSNBC headline on common cold virus making kids fat, US News also ran one on cold virus making kids fat, not to mention my favorite thus far “Childhood cold virus could lead to the development of obesity” as reported by the Telegraph (United Kingdom). I have done many health reports over the years and yes, some have been shocking, strange and off the wall. This one I am just not sure where to place it.
The cause of this latest news that has the media buzzing? The University of California in San Diego and their latest study. Their findings had shown that children who are obese in a great probability were infected with adenovirus36(AD36) than those children who are deemed fit. So basically before you know it we have earth shaking news.
Basically the study consisted of 124 children to see if they ever were infected with the AD36 virus, which for the record is only one type of virus that causes colds, there are many others.
After their examination they had established that 22% of obese children did at one time have the virus compared to 74% who were not obese. The obese children had weighed 50 pounds more than those who did not have virus. So there you have it, another leap for mankind.
So now it is out their stating that this one strain of a cold virus produces obesity in children. Seems like this is an inaccurate conclusion here to jump at.
The reasoning for the madness
It is a well known fact that being obese makes you more prone to infections because it hinders the immune function. Therefore, yes children who are obese do have more of a chance of being infected with the AD36 virus. Obese children have also been known to spend less time in the sun which provides immense amounts of vitamin D, so they are more likely to be deficient in this vitamin and that makes them more prone to infections.
Unfortunately, a lot of children who are obese consume junk food constantly instead of eating healthy foods. This is also another factor contributing to obesity and lower immunity levels. Now, if we add up the junk food consumption, lack of outdoor sunshine, non-healthy foods it all equals out to the direct reason for the infections. Basic math equation poor health equals poor immune functions.
Therefore, based on logic, obese children are more prone to infections like those of the AD36 virus. Known fact if you live an unhealthy life style which does not include things such as exercise and nutrition you are going to have infections and obesity.
Science and its need for another vaccine
So here we begin the science of the medical community. Like scientists they see issues one way cause and effect. Since the virus evidently causes the obesity issue we need to reverse the damage. So here we go, the cause is the virus and the effect a vaccine. If everyone starts to panic here especially parents of obese children, having a obesity vaccine is the answer. If you take vaccine you will not get fat.
Sounds like a lot of those diet scams that are on the loose today.
Another vaccine unleashed on the world and the industry who makes these vaccines, doing the happy vaccine dance. They now have persons actually believing that viruses are in complete control of our health and the result of quality of our lives. The best part, that we have no control in our health or life quality. You do realize that is basically that hidden message behind this latest news event. Children are not at fault for controlling their weight or their parents it is the total fault of the virus. So let’s all go out to the store and grab extra junk food and serve Twinkies for dinner. That is the basic idea they are trying to lead everyone to believe.
It is totally untrue any way you want to look at it. The Telegraph article basically states that when kids are young and exposed to this virus they become obese. This latest news flash was based on a correlation and not on a direct cause. So there you have the media tends to extend facts at time.
To date no real link between the virus and obese children has been determined. The study just found a parallel and when one of those is found you can not just assume that A had caused B. It could be reversed in all reality and B had caused A.
Adding in the germ belief
So why does medicine and media just take that giant leap and start broadcasting a false conclusion? Due to the fact just one similarity had occurred. The germ belief comes to life, the belief that germs are always liable for a patients health. In their theory they do not add in the main factor, the patient is responsible for certain outcomes in their health, such as weight and unhealthy eating habits. Medical science would rather just give the outcome to pharmaceutical companies to go ahead and develop another drug, which has the chance of side effects, recalls and even more death leashed upon the world. Let us not forget those miracle workers that found that perfect cure out there that works. Such as the recent events of a business man now on trail for selling an herbal pill to cure cancer.
This whole mess is reflected on a statement made by the studies lead writer, Dr. Jeffrey Schwimmer, who basically states we need to stop laying blame and lean towards the level of comprehension to support both prevention and treatment.
Translation is simple, persons are not responsible because they make the wrong food choices and do not exercise it does not matter in being obese. We just need to vaccinate every child for the problem of obesity and we have a treatment.
It has been noted that some people blame their obesity on things like viruses or just being big boned. Unfortunately, those persons become the prey of those pharmaceutical companies. They rather you go have that big mac at McDonald’s three or four times a day because in the end we will have a treatment in a magic vaccine or another pill. You do not need to do any exercise but even if you do the virus will still make you fat. Yes, hard to believe but is seems as if that is the exact story they are selling to persons.
Some obesity is beyond control
Although it is rare there is the obesity syndrome which is caused by mutations in single genes. However, genetic predisposition does not have to lead to obesity. You have control over changing your own eating habits. You do not have to follow a set family pattern, such as cleaning your plate.
For some reasons there are those lucky people that can consume anything and remain thin. Unfortunately, there are a great number of us that need to watch what we consume and get off our rear ends from in front of the televison set and exercise.
There are two main things in this world that will help you and your children lose weight safely and effectively, no its not expense and you do not have to order it. Two little words diet and exercise.
First off, before you even start you might want to check your weight and use a BMI calculator. Known as the body mass indicator, they can be found online all over. The one on Keep Kids Healthy is great plus they give you tons of information. The CDC has one for adults and children.
Once you have done that you know the exact amount of weight to lose to be in the healthy weight area.
We all can burn off small amounts of fat each week just by having a healthy lifestyle.
Unhealthy foods is the main reason behind that weight gain. The best rule is eating six small meals instead of three large.
Here comes the hard part, some of those foods you enjoy need to be gone. Hamburgers and Pizza American food favorites for the young and old. Bad news, they have a lot of unhealthy fat and should be disgarded when you wish to lose weight. Fried foods need to be gone, so Kentuy Fried Chicken will have to get along without you. So will those donoughts and french fries. No more twinikies, or ding dongs either grab a piece of fruit. They contain unhealthy transfat.
Foods that are the do list
Many times the unhealthy weight comes from over eating. So in order to reduce this use a fiber rich diet. Fiber will make your digestion rate work slower which is a very good thing. When you consume and digest food slower it helps cut down those hunger cravings. No need to groan here a lot of the foods on the list are great such as raspberries and strawberries, broccoli and baked potatoe, pecans and even rye bread. The diet mainly centers around the consumption of more fruits and vegetables and limiting poultry.
If you wish to lose those pounds faster eat dark green leafy vegetables like broccoli and fruits like apples. Whole grain breads and breakfast cerals are also high in fiber. Protein rich foods like salmon and skinless chicken are the healthy fat foods. So go ahead and add protein rich meals to the mix.
Exercise for diet has been around through the ages of time. Simple math equation food consumption plus exercise equal healthy weight. Have a exercise routine and it has been advised by experts in this field to exercise in the morning or afternoon hours. Exercising at night before bedtime can bring on new issues like insomnia.
You can take a brisk walk around the block. Exercises for the cardiovascular system burn off those extra pounds in fast time. Try things like running, swimming, aerobic yoga, and by all means cardio.
Exercise does matter and doing a 30 minute session at least five days a week is benefical. If you really want to lose the weight fast try 50 minutes.
