College football rankings for week 5 now includes the new 2010 AP Top 25. These new week 5 college football rankings show an AP Top 25 with serious changes. Over in the week 5 coaches’ poll, Oregon jumped from No. 6 to No. 4, and in the latest AP Top 25, Oregon moves up from No. 5 to No.4, surpassing TCU here as well.
As we predicted, there were quite a few changes to the AP Top 25 this week, especially in the middle and at the very bottom. With tough losses to LSU and Boise State, West Virginia and Oregon State fell out of the top 25. Taking their spots were undefeated North Carolina State and Nevada, both of which put up another impressive showing during week 4 of the college football season.
Texas losing to UCLA was severely punished in the latest AP Top 25, as the fell from No. 7 all the way down to No. 21 in this poll. On the flip side of that, Stanford has jumped into the top 10, ranked No. 9 in the week 5 AP Top 25. That is a huge jump for Stanford, and gives the Pac-10 Conference two teams in the top nine now (Oregon No. 4). Auburn jumped all the way from No. 17 up to No. 10 as well, making the SEC have three teams in the top 10 now (Alabama No.1; Florida No. 7).
Just looking at the 2010 week 5 AP Top 25 as compared to last week seems shocking, and now we are down to just three teams getting votes for first place. There is still one voter that has Boise State as the best team in the country, and with a nice win over Oregon State on Saturday night, they did rack up another high quality victory for their resume. With Nevada surging, that should give Boise State another game on their schedule against a ranked opponent as well.
Things are bound to get shuffled up even more in the next week of play, especially with some of the better ranked teams playing against each other to help decide where they stand within their own conferences. Expect the week 6 polls to give us another new look at where these schools all stand.
Among the games that have to be watched closely are Florida vs. Alabama and Stanford vs. Oregon.
