Early week 7 college football scores are coming in for Oct. 16, and Michigan State has moved to 7-0 in 2010. Illinois became their latest victim on Saturday, as the Spartans won 26-6 in a game that they controlled all through the second half. The third quarter started out really well for the Spartans, as quarterback Kirk Cousins threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to give them a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish for the rest of the day. Michigan State has been winning games in an impressive fashion all season, and though Illinois might not be that great right now, it’s another notch in the Big Ten standings for Michigan State.
Over in ACC action, No. 16 ranked Florida State held on for a close win at home. The Seminoles were hosting Boston College in a conference game, but needed a fourth quarter touchdown to overcome Boston College. The final score was a 24-19 win in favor of Florida State, but this game won’t lead to many additional voted in the week 8 college football polls. With the win, Florida State moved to 6-1 though, and has a really good chance at winning the ACC this season. The ACC is admittedly having a down year in 2010, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of this seasons games won’t be extremely exciting to decide which team gets an automatic spot in a BCS bowl game.
No. 21 ranked Missouri went in to the home stadium of Texas A&M, and showed voters exactly what they have been missing when it comes to the Tigers this season. Missouri controlled the game from the first kickoff, beating Texas A&M by the score of 30-9. Missouri now sits at 6-0 in 2010, with a nice 2-0 start to their Big 12 Conference schedule. This was a very important road win for Missouri, and maybe they will finally win the favor of some voters in the week 8 Harris Poll and newest Coaches’ Poll.
Some of the later games on Saturday include some very competitive conference match-ups. The SEC has Arkansas vs. Auburn on CBS, the Big Ten has Iowa vs. Michigan on ABC/ESPN, and the Big 12 has Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech. Later on Saturday night is a great Big Ten game between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 18 Wisconsin as well, where the Buckeyes are going to have to prove they can win a very tough road game. This also serves as the best chance for Wisconsin to move up the polls before the first 2010 BCS standings come out on Sunday, Oct 17.
