My family loves tacos but I’m not too keen on making them. For that reason, I have been known to take a shortcut or two along the way.
An easy shortcut is in seasoning the taco meat itself. There are a lot of good seasoning mixes available in the marketplace. However, if you like your tacos extra spicy, then your choices are severely reduced.
That is when I turn to Colonial Kitchen Hot Taco Spicy Seasoning Mix. It comes in 1.25-oz packages that represents 6 servings.
A serving is 2 tsp. and there are 15 calories in each one. Luckily none of the calories are fat-related.
Colonial Kitchen Hot Taco Spicy Seasoning Mix contains no cholesterol, fat or sugar. However, it does have 3 grams of carbohydrate and 410 milligrams of sodium.
On a positive note, Colonial Kitchen Hot Taco Spicy Seasoning Mix provides 1 gram of fiber. It also offers 4% of the daily-recommended amount of iron and 4% of the required amount of vitamin A.
Ingredients include canola oil, corn flour, dehydrated garlic, miscellaneous herbs and spices, onion, paprika, turmeric, salt and sugar. It also contains caramel color, dextrose, monosodium glutamate and silicon dioxide.
To use this mix, brown a single pound of ground beef. Crumble it along the way to make it easier to scoop into taco shells when you are ready.
Stir in .75 cup of water and the Colonial Kitchen Hot Taco Spicy Seasoning Mix. Make sure both are mixed thoroughly into the meat and evenly distributed. Continue cooking until the consistency is how you like it.
Spoon the seasoned beef into taco shells. Top with your favorite condiments such as lettuce, tomato, onions, refried beans, cheese, sour cream and taco sauce.
For another fun option, make a standard green salad and put it into a tortilla bowl (pre-made or one you make yourself). Add seasoned beef along with your favorite condiments. Serve while still piping hot.
Make your own nachos by spooning seasoned beef over tortilla chips. Add tomatoes, onions and cheese and pop in the microwave for about 45 seconds to melt the cheese. Serve with your favorite condiments.
