I am embarking on a journey today and I am going to take as many of you with me as will come. Most will join me out of curiosity and some for support. I am letting you all in so that I will stay the course and complete this trip.
I am 51, soon to reach 52 and for the past 25 years I have been overweight. Not just a few pounds, but obese. It is extremely hard for me to admit this to you because I don’t want to admit it to myself. At one point in my life I was morbidly obese. To those of you who are thin and have never struggled with weight issues, God bless you. For the rest of us, well, you all know the daily struggles that go into any weight loss program. I have managed to lose 60 pounds by myself, but I still need to lose that much and perhaps more. I have been stuck at the same weight for about two years and the scale began to creep up lately and I knew I had to do something.
I chose the program that Marie Osmond used. I’m not going to say one program is better than another, I just chose this one because of my life style and because I am lazy. They even have a vegetarian food line and that is perfect for me. I like the idea of pre-packaged meals, plus they have an online support system, blogs, and other members you can chat with. I have already buddied up with several people who are just starting and we are going to be partners in this challenge together.
My big box of food arrived yesterday. I had cleared out my cupboards and refrigerator of any “bad” foods and had made room for it. My husband is being extremely supportive and we went grocery shopping for the fresh veggies and fruits that I supply. I also supply fresh dairy, such as fat free milk, yogurt and eggs. I am as psyched as I can be.
I have gotten into some very bad eating habits. I do not eat breakfast, and often not even lunch. So why am I fat? Dinner and afterwards. Eating non-stop until I go to sleep and not on healthy foods either. My main downfall is sweets and ice cream being the reigning king there. Since my husband is so sweet to me, he has often gotten up out of the bed and gone to the store to get me my favorite kind of ice cream when I have had a craving. We have since chatted about that and he promised me he would tell me “No” if I asked him to do that again.
I ate breakfast. I had a banana nut muffin, mini size and coffee. I also am supposed to have a dairy serving and a fruit serving. I have a 1/2 cup of fat free Greek yogurt mixed with fresh raspberries waiting for me in the fridge. I will eat that as a mid morning snack.
I wrote to one of my weight loss buds who has finished the program and has lost over 100 pounds. I told her I feel like I am eating way too much food and that I am afraid I will gain weight. She answered promptly (which is great) and told me this is a common problem with “newbie’s”. Not to worry. The program is based on the low glycemic index scale and it teaches you proper eating habits for a healthy way of life. It shows a person what a proper portion looks like and helps your body reset your messed up metabolism and helps turn you into a fat burning machine.
Realistically, I am to expect to lose 1-2 pounds of FAT per week on the program. Some lose more, some less, but I am on my way to a healthier, happier me. I hope you will come with me on my journey. I will post an update every Friday and I promise to be as honest as I can about my journey. I might even post before and after pictures but I am not that brave yet.
