Birmingham’s Common Ground has been hosting Art in the Park for 35 years. This year, CG’s Art in the Park gets a new home and a new name. Common Ground’s 36th Annual Birmingham Street Art Fair happens Sept. 25 and 26 on Old Woodward south of Maple. Common Ground, an 24-hour crisis center, uses funds raised from the art fair to provide counseling, community support, transitional housing and assistance to adults, children and families in crisis. Common Ground maintains a 24-hour telephone response hotline.
While the name and place have changed, the Birmingham Street Art Fair still offers visitors beautiful, handmade gifts and crafts. Artisans offer ceramics, glass works, leather goods, wood working, jewelry and other lovely works of art. To celebrate Common Ground’s 40th anniversary, Project S.N.A.P. (Share.Nurture.Act.Preserve.) is asking friends of CG to help make a community mosaic mural, by drawing a picture reflecting how CG has impacted them. Common Ground’s Birmingham Street Art Fair is free to the public and opens at 10 a.m. both days and ends at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
