Religion is a very important aspect of our society. Religion plays a role in every person’s life whether they practice or attach themselves to a religion or not. Unfortunately, part of religion’s impact on lives include war, terrorism, and mistrust. Three of the world’s popular religions, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, are currently being used as motivation for these negative actions. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism have many shared beliefs and shared history; perhaps if more followers of these religions became knowledgeable about the similarities rather than emphasizing the differences, these negative consequences of religious beliefs would end.
Judaism, Islam, and Christianity all base their beliefs in the same God. Although God may be spoken of in different names in the different religions, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all referencing the same, one God. All three religions trace their history to the covenant God made with Abraham in the Hebrew Bible. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all share the core belief of their religions with one another.
All three religions have peaceful messages and beliefs. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all emphasis the importance of living an ethical life, making right choices and honorable decisions. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all value morality. Murder of innocent people is a grave offense in Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, and each religion has understanding and forgiveness in its teachings.
Unfortunately, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all share a violent past as well. Violence by followers in the name of each respective religion have plagued the history of each. Many lives have been lost in the name of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Extremists and terrorists have committed terrible acts in the name of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism throughout each religion’s history. Although Islam bears the brunt of accusations of religious violence at this time, all three religions have violent histories.
The knowledge of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity’s shared beliefs and common peaceful messages could help to prevent any more violence in the name of these religions. Followers need to embrace the true teachings of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity and stop using these religions as shields in committing violence and spreading hate. People practicing these religions need to stop mistrusting one another and start working together to help make positive events happen in our world rather than negative ones.
