Sometimes when it appears that you are the only one standing up for something, you tend to look around and just sit down. Then there are times when you know what you are standing up for is right and you can feel it from the very depths of your soul. This is that time for me.
As I have written about in the past, to learn now that even though I have earned the right and privilege of being a veteran for life because of my willingness to serve and sacrifice life and limb for this country, I did not deserve to have the benefits of surviving those years I served. It seems that only when you die on the battlefield, do others tend to really appreciate the sacrifice that you have made and no one really care to understand the sacrifice made by those who survive. No one seems to realize the stress and strain that comes with years of willingness to cast aside your own will of self-preservation in order to accomplish the mission or save the life of a fellow man or woman. This country offers you an opportunity to serve and when you say yes, they promise you so much only to take it all away with a stroke of the pen or by a “nay” vote in congress. The Department of Veterans Affairs says that if you do not use your benefits within ten years, you lose them. I think that is more than wrong it is criminal and I have no problem with taking up this fight.
Now we have a group of Republicans who are now advocating privatizing the Veteran’s Administration. Not only do they wish to stamp a time-limit on the benefits promised and those that you have earned; now they wish to take away our healthcare system as well. These same idiots say that it’s about reducing government spending, yet I do not hear any of them proposing that they take a pay cut in order to reduce that spending. I do not hear them willing to shed a few of the benefits that they have to reduce that spending. I do not hear them willing to sacrifice anything at all to reduce that spending. Lead by example and never ask anyone to do anything that you would not do yourself. This is the lesson that those who wish now to gamble with healthcare needs to heed. Sit on the sidelines if you wish America and allow those who wish to gamble with social security and veteran’s healthcare to privatize it but if you do please do not ever say again that you appreciate your freedoms or that you respect the sacrifices that veterans have afforded you. Sit on the sidelines veterans and veterans’ organizations and allow those who wish to gamble with our healthcare but do not ever open your mouth again to declare your title again. Washington’s assault will not go unanswered, not as long as God is putting air in my lungs. Join me if you wish, I could use the company but please leave your guns and ammunition at home, we will not have any need for them in this fight.
