If you’ve ever played any of the Diner Dash games, then you certainly remember Flo. As gamers’ favorite restaurateur, Flo has earned success and recognition from her patrons in the array Diner Dash series of games, and went on to serve up more fun in Wedding Dash, and more. Now, the fast-food heroine returns in Cooking Dash 3: Thrills & Spills. This time, Flo and the gang (even Grandma is along for the action) are providing food services for the local theme park. Setup as a glimpse of the past, BigWorld is transformed into the now appropriately named DinerLand, thanks to Flo’s outstanding abilities.
Things kick-off for Flo when she happens to be near Mr. Big as he is discussing the success of his theme park to his father. Truth is, there is little to no business, and everything is in shambles. Flo, along with the teens who had worked at the park then set out to ensure the success of the park – one restaurant at a time.
Starting off at the pirate ship ride, the Jelly Roger, Flo must prove her foodservice skills through various levels. True to dash and time management style play, gamers will control Flo through a customer’s entire dining experience, including seating, taking an order, cooking, serving, and cleaning up. Things naturally get a little crazy as a variety of patron’s with varying attitudes visit the restaurant. Business women for example are usually in a rush and need to be served quickly, as opposed to the old men who take their time and don’t mind waiting a little longer.
Points and money are earned based on speed and performance. The quicker a customer receives their order, the happier they are and the more likely they are to leave a tip. Not everything comes easy, however, of the many pitfalls, common problems include, customers leaving out of frustration for waiting too long, and overcooking food to a customer’s dissatisfaction.
Progression through the levels at each themed venue in the park is based on meeting goals. Once the goals are met, gamers can then proceed to the next level. Each level becomes increasingly difficult with more customers, more food ordered, and new items to be served. Between the levels, however, players have the opportunity to perform upgrades that benefit gameplay. Functional upgrades to the restaurant include things such as better equipment and faster abilities, while visual upgrades provide a pleasant atmosphere for customers.
Mini-games scattered between the levels provide a way for players to stock up on a quantity of prepared meals. Games such as, matching, hidden object, and more provide the meals that can be served in the upcoming level with the number of meals being based on the score received in the mini-game.
Cooking Dash 3: Thrills & Spills is a fun game. Like the games that came before it, play is quite similar and routine. Although there are no new breakthroughs, there a few small twists to be found that make the titles differ from one another.
A Special Edition version of the game is available and includes a built-in strategy guide, game themed wallpapers, a custom screensaver, and the extra Big Gold Rush amusement park venue which adds additional gameplay. Cooking Dash 3: Thrills & Spills can be found at Big Fish Games.
