“Roseanne” was a ground breaking television show in the 1980’s and 1990’s. It depicted a lower middle class family that struggled financially, faced many challenges raising their children and managed to get through it all with a great dose of humor. The reflection of what millions of American families were facing in their own lives, made the television comedy a hit that is still watched in reruns to this day. If you and your partner wish to wear a unique coordinated couples costume, consider dressing as Landford’s Dan and Roseanne Connor.
Dan Connor Costume: Both the Dan and Roseanne costumes are very comfortable and require very little specialty items. This not only makes costumes very quick and easy, it will save you money too. Dan was a working man who preferred to wear casual clothes to more formal attire. He basically wore washed out and faded jeans that have seen better days and a basic flannel shirt worn buttoned up but open at the neck to expose a plain white tee shirt underneath. He was a large man with quite a bit of a beer belly, so a pillow placed underneath the white undershirt will add authenticity to the costume. He often wore sneakers or brown boat shoes with white socks. Dan Connor’s hair was a light auburn and was a bit shaggy at the beginning of the series, but more close cropped in the later years of the show.
Roseanne Connor Costume: Roseanne Connor was of small financial means, so she definitely didn’t wear expensive clothing. Jeans and a sweatshirt, or an eighties style sweater are perfect for this costume. Comfortable sneakers can also be worn while dressing up as this television character. Roseanne sported many hair styles over the years and was seen with short, long, curly and straight hair during the duration of the series. She is probably most identified with how her hair was worn at the beginning of the series, a little above shoulder length, somewhat curly and pinned back with hairpins on both sides. She was also a larger sized woman, so extra padding can be worn underneath the clothing. Little or no jewelery can be worn, and a basic makeup can be applied.
Fun Extras For The Dan And Roseanne Connor Costumes: Dan Connor was often seen enjoying a beer while sitting in front of the television, so a beer can can be held by the male part of the Connor duo. The pockets of the jeans can also be pulled inside out to convey the lack of money the Connors were frequently dealing with on the show. The Roseanne Connor character struggled with her weight and loved her junk food, so feel free to munch the night away (only to stay in character, of course). Roseanne Barr started her career doing stand up comedy as “The Domestic Goddess” and her character on the show was often bogged down with household chores, so carrying a feather duster also works for the costume.
