Every Fall, my family goes Apple Picking. I usually end up with two bags full of apples each time and I never really know what to do with them! Sure, I could whip up an apple pie or crisp, but I’d rather spare my family and my belly (I have never been good at baking). I am more of the creative type than the baker anyway, so we do Apple Crafts!!!
Below I have listed 5 fun ways to use apples this Fall:
1. Apple Wreath
10 Apples (the imperfect and bruised apples are just fine- Green or Red)
Thick wire (that is bendable)
Hemp or Tan colored ribbon.
Take any apples that are slightly bruised or not so pretty and make a wreath out of them! My son always tends to pick up the bruised apples when we go apple picking, maybe he feels bad for them? Anyway, this is a great craft to use the apples that don’t always look so tasty! All you have to do is poke the wire through the center of the apple and straight through. 10 apples should be enough to make a round and full wreath. Then tie a few peices of hemp or ribbon to create a bow at the bottom. It should be natural and crunchy looking! Then, hang it on your front door!!
2. Autumn Potpourri
A collection of nature
The first thing for this potpourri is to cut apples into small, thin slices and bake them at 150 degrees for 40 minutes.
Next, start a collection of beautiful items of Autumn found in nature. Go on a walk with a basket in tote and collect interesting items such as, acorns, pine cones, dried leaves twigs, and bark.
Now you have the items to make it beautiful, all it needs is to smell as lovely as it looks! Get cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves and place them inside a ziploc bag. Then, use a rolling pin to crush and mix the spices. . Then put the dried apple slices in the bag and shake.
Next take all your Autumn items and mix with the apples and spices! It is best to allow it to set in a container, to really pick up a beautiful scent!
Then place it in a pretty bowl or basket and it’ll smell and look lovely!!??
3. Carve apples
Pumpkin Carving Kit
Who needs pumpkins when you can carve apples? Obviously it may be difficult to carve out the whole core without the apple rotting very quickly…so it is best to just carve silly faces in the front with small, undeep cuts. You could use a pumpkin carving kit! Then, use leaves and grass as hair!
4. Apple Faces
This craft is super easy and fun! I like to do this with my son because he can make a mess and use his imagination!! I let him paint a face of any kind on the apple. Then, once it dries, he glue on googly eyes and string on top for hair. You could make witches, or Frankenstein to make it Halloween themed!
5. Apple Prints
To make apple prints all you have to do is slice the apple in half, lengthwise, then let it sit and dry for some time. After it has dried, just dip it in colorful paints (maybe red, orange and yellow) and stamp it onto paper! So fun and so easy for children!
These are all fun crafts you can do alone or with a child!! They are fun, festive and very Fall-ish!
