Sept. 29, 2010- While setting up cones at Moss Bluff Elementary this morning, crossing guards, Roland Parker (70-years old) and Carl Edwards(73-years old), were struck by a vehicle. Parker’s injuries proved to be fatal on his first day of work with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department. Edwards, who has been employed by CPSO since 2008, suffered a broken arm. The 91-year old driver who struck the crossing guards was transported to the Troop D headquarters for questioning and routine drug and alcohol testing. Moss Bluff Elementary has resumed classes as normal today.
As a reminder to motorists, school speed zones are in effect from 7:00am to 9:00am and from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The speed limit in these zones are set at 25 mph throughout Calcasieu Parish. Please drive with caution.
