Currently on exhibit at the Henry Gregg Gallery (111 Front st), Visions From the Field of Merit is a collection of paintings and drawings by Philip Sugden.
Sugden’s work reveals a life-long internal exploration of consciousness, awareness, and spirituality, as well as the physical journeys to Tibet and Nepal which were inspired by this internal exploration.
As a result, his work utilizes scenes and themes of Buddhist art and worship. “Over the years, the studio has become his monastery, and the creative process his practice.” Sugden has become a pilgrim, and his art is his journey. “For him, the artist is shaman, an intermediary between the visible and the invisible.”
Visions From the Field of Merit will remain open for only three more weeks.
The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6, except for Fridays when the Gallery closes at 5. The Henry Gregg Gallery is located at 111 Front steret, in DUMBO.
