Dancing With The Stars Season 11 has managed to continue with its knock-out blows results shows, and last night’s semi-finals episode was no exception. Bristol Palin has garnered enough votes to make it into DWTS’ Finals next week, while Brandy found out that she and partner Maks were eliminated.
Perhaps the shock of Brandy’s elimination was best expressed by Brandy herself who was only able to utter, “I don’t know how to feel right now, it hasn’t processed yet for me” upon being asked by Brooke Burke how she felt.
Thank God for Tom Bergeron who had the good sense to realize that Brandy was really shell-shocked into silence as he turned to Maks with a question to fill in the potentially awkward moment.
Asking the outspoken professional dancer how he felt about the elimination prompted a usually cocky and confident Maks into saying something about why he and his family came to America in the first place, because people could vote and their votes mattered.
Talk about dancing around the elephant in the room, or on the stage in this case as cameras shied away from Mark Ballas’ and Bristol Palins’ reactions to the news and kept us at home wondering what expressions they donned. (Were they shocked? Were they self-righteous?)
No one sitting outside the television box knows for sure how Bristol and Mark reacted, but we do know that Brandy was brokenhearted. As the show looked “back at Maks and Brandy’s journey” we also saw Brandy bury her head into Maks’ shoulder as she cried.
Brandy’s elimination also means that Kyle Massey of Disney fame will go to the Finals next week along with Bristol and Jennifer Grey. The fact that Kyle has made it to the last round is not a huge surprise especially with his dancing ability, overall improvement, and uncanny and charismatic likeability.
Bristol’s jaunt into the finals and her entire DWTS stint for that matter has left us facing a conundrum. That is, are talent, technique and ability rendered feckless against popularity?
