And then there were three. Dancing with the Stars Season 11 is down to the final three contestants; Jennifer Grey, Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey.
Grey has been a favorite all through the competition both with the fans and with the judges. What’s not to like? Jennifer at 50 is on the older end of the age spectrum, but looks and dances like someone half her age. Fans remember her from ‘Dirty Dancing’
with co-star Patrick Swayze.
The one year anniversary of Swayze’s death coincided with the premier of Season 11, Dancing with the Stars. For their first dance of the season Jennifer and partner Derek Hough performed a Viennese Waltz to Otis Redding’s ‘These Arms of Mine’. The memory of Swayze and the re-creation of the dance she had performed with him in ‘Dirty Dancing’ brought tears to Grey and much of the audience.
Jennifer and Derek have been at or near the top of the score board consistently throughout season 11, even receiving three perfect scores in a two week period.
Bristol Palin came to the show as the underdog. Bristol was not a star or a celebrity, instead she was known for being an unwed teenage mother and daughter of Sarah Palin. While the other members of the cast knew how act in front of the camera, Bristol lacked stage presence and her shyness was a handicap.
The fact that Bristol has made it through to the finals had critics shouting foul especially since she and partner Mark Ballis have been at or near the bottom of the leader board 6 out of 9 weeks.
None the less Bristol is in the finals and some are saying she just might win season 11 of Dancing with the Stars.
Then there is Kyle Massey. Kyle is the youngest of this seasons cast members. Best known for his role on the Disney Channel’s ‘That’s so Raven’ and the spin-off, ‘Coy in the House,’ everyone fell in love with Kyle. He is cute, full of energy, and was more interested in munching down hamburgers and making jokes about expelling gas, than learning the dance steps with partner Lacey Schwimmer.
While America was watching Jennifer and Brandy dance and criticizing or voting for Bristol , Kyle made it through to the finals. While Kyle was never the strongest dancer, neither was he the weakest.
So now we have the likeable man-boy that Judge Carrie Ann called cute and energetic, and Len said had atrocious footwork in the final three. Is Kyle Massey the dark horse in this race? As host Tom Bergeron said “This season anything can happen”.
