The week 5 Dancing With the Stars results are in from Monday night, and the scores have Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy ahead of the curve. The Dancing With the Stars theme this week this week was TV show theme songs, so each couple danced to one of eight very famous songs. Some of those songs worked better than others when it came to ballroom dancing, and the obvious revelation that two TV stars would be dancing to the theme from their own shows wasn’t quite as entertaining as they may have hoped.
On Monday it was Brandy and Maksim that opened the show with a Quickstep that they danced to the theme song from Friends. It wasn’t a song that one would guess could work well in a ballroom setting, but Brandy ended up lending a lot of energy to the performance, causing it to work very well on the whole. This is probably going to be the judges’ favorite dance of the week, and should be their selection for an encore during the Tuesday night results show. Each of the judges gave the couple a nine, netting them a combined score of 27 out of 30 for the night. That was the best score from Monday, basically ensuring that they will be safe for another week.
Two of the other couples that performed well again on Monday night were Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough, as well as Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke. Jennifer Grey has become the favored celebrity this season, and even though they got 25 out of 30 on Monday, it was one of her lowest scores of the season. They danced a Fox Trot to the theme song from Married… With Children, and it seemed to be quite good. The judges disagreed though, finding that she has slipped a notch from previous weeks.
Rick and Cheryl danced a Rumba to the theme from Hill Street Blues, and they probably drew a lot of audience support from the sex appeal of that dance. The judges gave them 24 out of 30 as their Monday score. They ended up tied with the much improved Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya that also scored 24 out of 30 on a Quickstep to the theme from Bewitched.
At the bottom of Monday’s scoreboard are Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, that only netted 18 out of 30. Just ahead of them are Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, who only brought in a score of 20 out of 30. Both couples will be depending upon the audience votes from Monday night to determine who is going to stay. The energy that Massey has brought to the show this season can’t really be measured, and hopefully he gets another week to show what he can do on the dance floor.
The Week 5 Dancing With the Stars Results Show airs at 9 p.m. PT/ET on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
