Instead of the Macy’s Stars of Dance on the “Dancing with the Stars” results show we were treated to a child prodigy pianist and two kid ballroom couples. Other entertainment was from John Legend and The Roots, Taio Cruz and the trio that makes up the annual “DanceCenter” addition.
Kenny Mayne’s dry humor may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoyed this season’s commentary on the Top 5. Needless to say another fine athlete got the boot at the end of the show. He received gracious words from Bruno and a standing ovation from the crowd.
Encore Dance – Kyle’s and Lacey’s Instant Dance Jive
One of the highlights of the results show was seeing Kyle’s and Lacey’s Jive once again from the Instant Dance round Monday night. It was fast, bouncy and perfectly timed to the music, even though they had less than an hour to practice it initially. Afterwards, they got their results and are now in the semi-final round next week.
DanceCenter – Kurt, Kyle and Bristol
The moment I’ve been waiting for all season. If you don’t like or get dry humor, then this will either go over your head or seem unfunny. I love how deadpan Kenny Mayne gets with his commentary.
First it was Kurt Warner. They showed him passing the football to some of the pro dancers. Then they disintegrated like you see on those video games. Kyle was seen wearing some funky casual fashions during his rehearsals. The funniest of all was seeing Bristol Palin in her gorilla suit at the end. She actually had a lot more personality while wearing it.
He performed his hit song “Dynamite” along with the pro dancers. I enjoyed this song very much. Hopefully we’ll be hearing a lot more from Taio Cruz.
John Legend and The Roots
During the first half of the results show he sang his latest hit “Wake-Up” that had a very positive message lyrically. Near the end of the show John Legend came back to perform his classic hit “Ordinary People.” It was great hearing such fabulous vocalists for a change.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough along with Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya awaited their fate. Jennifer and Derek are in the semis, but Kurt and Anna were in jeopardy. I had a bad feeling about them throughout the show.
Child Prodigy Performers
We were treated to something different on the results show. First, we learned about an incredible child prodigy on the piano. She was absolutely unbelievable. Then, two ballroom couples that were just kids danced to the music played by the genius pianist. They certainly danced with great speed and precision. Tom Bergeron jokingly said to be on the lookout for them in Season 30 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
DanceCenter (cont’d) – Brandy and Jennifer
Kenny, Jerry and Len critiqued the last two celebrity dancers. The one about Brandy wasn’t so funny. However, the clips they showed of Jennifer and Derek rocking away while waiting their feedback from the judges or during the past results shows was hilarious. Kenny said Derek is rocking Baby (cue lullaby music) from Jennifer’s character in “Dirty Dancing.”
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas plus Brandy and Maks Chmerkovskiy were the last remaining couples. Let’s just say Brandy and Maks were the ones in jeopardy. Bristol Palin survived once again elimination for the umpteenth time. What else is new?
Before the announcement of who was going home Maks was still harping on the judging issue from Carrie Ann. As Maks was about to go on his verbal rampage Brandy took her hand and cupped his mouth to shut him up. It was truly classic the way she handled it so effectively. I definitely have new respect for Brandy.
Unfortunately my favorite couple of season 11 was sent home. I knew deep down inside Kurt Warner would leave at either Top 5 or Top 4. I’m glad he made it into the quarterfinals at least. Bruno had some great things to say about Kurt, especially about being an American Idol.
