A lot was on the plate of this fourth week for “Dancing with the Stars” results show. Aside from the slowly but surely elimination of one couple at the end we were entertained from an extraordinary encore dance, a greatest hits medley by the Goo Goo Dolls, a stripped down version of their latest hit by Florence and The Machine, and more tango dancing from the show “Forever Tango” sponsored by the Macy’s Stars of Dance. We saw two mockumentary style films of Len’s classroom in getting a “10” score and the week in the life of a celebrity contestant that was rather unique in presentation. Now its on with the show.
1st Results – The Top Three Scorers
Jennifer & Derek, Brandy & Maks and Audrina & Tony were brought out for having the highest scores Monday night. All of them were informed by Tom and Brooke they’re safe. As if no one else saw that coming.
Encore Dance – A Near Perfect Argentine Tango
The judges were completely unanimous in their selection for the encore dance of the night. It went to none other than the couple who scored the first 10s of season 11, Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough. Their superb Argentine Tango was just as brilliant as it was during the performance show. Without question the best dance of the season thus far.
Goo Goo Dolls Greatest Hits Medley
These included the smash hits of “Iris” and “Not Broken” by the band hailing from Buffalo, New York. Pro dancers Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin as well as other “So You Think You Can Dance” alums Jason Glover and Chantel Aguirre provided the accompanying balletic ballroom dancing.
2nd and 3rd Results
Kyle & Lacey and Bristol & Mark awaited their fates while Kyle gets to dance to a TV theme song next week, perhaps from his own Disney show? Bristol and Mark are in jeopardy just like last week.
The two professional athletes, NBA’s Rick Fox and NFL’s Kurt Warner were the next couple right behind the previous two. Naturally Rick and Cheryl were safe, but Kurt and Anna, not so much, as they were in jeopardy.
Len’s Classroom in scoring a perfect “10” Mockumentary Style
We were treated to this clever style of documentary filming that’s comical in presentation. Len Goodman was giving a classroom lecture on how to get a “10” paddle to a bunch of unruly students played by the celebrity cast. Kurt was great as the student tossing the paper football at Len while Kyle was caught with gum in his mouth.
Macy’s Stars of Dance – Forever Tango
It was perfectly suited to have more tango performances on Acoustic Week when one of the featured dances Monday night was the Argentine tango. Forever Tango is a Broadway show about the history of this passionate dance. We saw one musical number where numerous couples were on the dance floor set in a tango club in Buenos Aires.
Florence and The Machine Stripped Down
Their latest hit song “Dog Days Are Over” from this alternative rock group was down to just a harp and acoustic guitar. It seemed more appropriate for a stage in the round performance, which is always intimate. The plume of smoke and dreamy lighting, plus the contemporary dancers, made the setting even more surreal.
Florence & Corky and The Situation & Karina were the last couples standing who had yet to learn their fates. Of course Florence Henderson was safe, but not The Situation.
Another Mockumentary on the Week in the Life of a Celebrity on DWTS
All you saw were the feet and hands of a celebrity waking up early on Wednesday morning, learning a new dance routine, rehearsing, and getting ready for show time from their point of view. The celebrities were in full view with their teaching and mentoring. This was a cute film set to an awesome classic rock tune that completely escapes at this time.
Finally, the Elimination
The three couples in jeopardy: Kurt & Anna and Bristol & Mark were safe, but The Situation had a no win on his hands. Personally, I don’t think Mike Sorrentino was prepared or capable of a rigorous schedule filled with dance rehearsals. It takes someone with a lot of dedication, which I felt he had none of those qualities. Next week the couples take on a dance not done before. Some are speculating Florence will dance to “The Brady Bunch” Theme. I wonder if anyone’s dancing to “Hawaii Five-0?”
