The 10th Season Premiere of Dancing With The Stars received high ratings on September 20th, 2010. The two-hour premiere drew in 20.99 million viewers, and increased 22% from last season’s debut. What causes such a great increase in ratings? The answer can be simplified to two words: Jennifer Grey . Fans nationwide are tuning in, in my opinion, for this contestant.
Jennifer Grey, wildly popular for portrayal of “Baby” and a flirty tango with Patrick Swayze in the hit film, “Dirty Dancing”, has once again strapped on her dancing shoes. During the Season Premiere, rehearsal footage was displayed, and it showed a mournful Grey missing her dancing partner and friend, Swayze. Grey’s first dance with DWTS partner, Derek Hough, was splendid. Graceful and natural, it is safe to say that even now, no one will put Baby in a corner!
Other stars in the lineup include David Hasselhoff, or the “Hoff”, Florence “Carol Brady” Henderson, Comedian Margaret Cho, Kyle Massey, singers Michael Bolton and Brandy, Rick Fox, Audrina Partridge and Kurt Warner.
All of the new contestants and their partners danced their first dance and then the voting lines were opened. The following night, the result show was aired. I honestly looked for Florence Henderson to be sent home, and was shocked to find out that the results.
Cho, Bolton, “The Situation” and “The Hoff” were all candidates for the bottom two. Announced was the fact that
Cho and Bolton were the first two safe, both looking relieved. “The Hoff” and “The Situation” were left in the bottom two, but the one that received the least amount of votes, and was going home. After a long pause, it was announced that David Hasselhoff would be leaving the show. According to starcelebritys.com, Hasselhoff had this to say; It’s been a great ride,” and also added that, “I feel bad for Kym because she worked so hard to try and get me where I was going. And I’m just so proud [that] my daughters are here and they got to see me go this far.”
Not surprising to me was the fact that Jennifer Grey currently seems to be the strongest contender. And why shouldn’t she be, after all,she was taught by the greatest! I like her for the winner of this year’s competition, and I look forward to watching weekly, to watch “Baby” progress nicely each week, ultimately taking home the crown!
