Tonight a new Dancing With the Stars champion will be crowned, and fans everywhere are nervous. Season 11 of ABC’s hit show has proven to be one of the most unpredictable, with last week’s elimination of Brandy and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy coming as a shocking disappointment to many viewers.
The three pairs who remain in the competition are Kyle Massey & Lacey Schwimmer, Jennifer Grey & Derek Hough, and Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas.
Tonight’s show will be the second part of the finale special. The three couples will be dancing, but for entertainment purposes only as voting ended at 11 a.m. ET. Towards the end of the program, the winning duo will be announced and awarded the coveted mirror ball.
All three teams have their own reasons for being a hit with both the judges and the viewers.
Jennifer and Derek have scored highest on the boards, although it remains to be seen if they’re a fan favorite. With her form, Grey has the ability to make every dance beautiful. She makes you believe that she belongs on the dance floor. Also it doesn’t hurt that Hough is an exceptionally talented dancer who can fling Grey around like a featherweight. The two have had no trouble carrying out Dancing themes, with Jennifer playing the role of the older, bossier female on several occasions.
Bristol and Mark have scored the lowest with respect to the Judge’s numbers, but it’s obvious there are a lot of people pulling for this teen mom, who has come out of her shell while on Dancing. As the underdog of this season, she’s managed to make it to the finals by putting her best foot forward in the face of all kinds of criticism. People have enjoyed watching her improve each week as she transformed from a shy and nervous teen to a confident and imposing figure alongside partner Mark Ballas.
Kyle and Lacey have proven to be an excellent team as the Disney star has taken the judges advice each week and applied it to his steps. They recognized that and the duo’s scores have gone up and stayed there. Energetic and animated, Massey’s had the crowd roaring with every performance since their debut on the show. He’s also quick on his feet, keeping up with Lacey on every move despite his larger frame.
As Judge Carrie Ann Inaba put it, it’s anybody’s title: “If ever there was a season that’s hard to predict, I think it’s this one. I wish the judges’ scores carried more weight. But America always gets it right.”
