Once we got beyond recaps of dances we have already seen –There were only 7 couples left on season 11, week 6, of “Dancing with the Stars.” The competition has clearly moved to the next level and the couples that needed to really shine this week in order to hang around were Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya, and Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer.
Rock and Roll Week on season 11 “Dancing with the Stars,” week 6
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani – dance the paso doble
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani looked hot before they ever even hit the dance floor. Tony took Audrina to a kick boxing studio earlier in the week to help draw out the passion and fight she needed to bring to the floor for an effective passé double.
The couple not only looked hot, but they were hot during the dance. I saw only one minor misstep and awkward moment. Overall, the dance was passionate and full-on. Unfortunately, the judges thought she was capable of more passion and characterization.
Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani scored a 24 on week 6 of “DWTS” 11.
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer – do the tango
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer looked a little bit like cartoon characters in their costumes. They had to come out strong during week 6 to make up for their poor performance last week. They did an okay job with a few missteps, but I just couldn’t take Kyle seriously doing a tango. He is a great performer, but he just doesn’t do it for me as a dancer. Kyle Massey is either too young or too Disney for “DWTS.”
Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer scored a 23.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough – danced the paso doble
During the last two weeks Jennifer Grey, the early fan favorite, slipped to second place on the leader board. It’s not the end of the world, but obviously given her amazing talent the judges are holding Jennifer Grey to a higher standard.
On “Dancing with the Stars,” season 11, week 6 Jennifer and Derek danced the passé double which enabled Jennifer to demonstrate her passion with very dramatic characterization and movements. It was a quick dance, well executed until both Jennifer and Derek had a misstep at the end.
The judges disagreed with me and the audience. It sounds like they are nit picking Jennifer Grey.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough were scored an appalling 20 by the highly critical judges.
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke – danced the tango
Rick Fox had trouble during the week’s practice. He had a tendency to over analyze every step of the way. I was anxious to see what the couple would bring to the dance floor.
Their footwork looked good, but Rick Fox looked stiff and hard throughout the dance. After seeing that I’m not sure the tango was ever meant to be danced to rock and roll.
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke received a reasonable score of 24 on week 6, episode 11 of “DWTS.”
Rick’s painted mohawk did not look good. Good thing he is one of the best looking men on “Dancing with the Stars” season 11 – even a crazy hairstyle couldn’t change that.
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas – dance the tango
After last week’s fiasco in the ape costumes Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas had to pull themselves up from the bottom of the leader board. Last week they were at the bottom of the leader board, but pulled through the competition by fan vote (There must be a lot of viewers in Alaska!).
Bristol’s steps and performance were much improved this week, especially during the first part of her dance. The judge’s were very complimentary of their dance.
Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas danced away with a 23, their best score to date.
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya – danced the paso doble
Following a stellar performance last week on season 11 of “Dancing with the Stars” Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya needed to perform well this week. Their dance was one of the best choreographed with the rock music theme for week 6. It was a strong dance. The judges didn’t like it, but the crowd disagreed.
Kurt and Anna scored a paltry 18, with what I thought was one of the best dances of the night.
Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – danced the tango
We thought Brandy and Maksim had worked out their differences, but they had another hard week. Maksim was pushing Brandy to her limits, and she was hitting them hard.
After several very successful weeks, Brandy and Maksim looked ready to dance from the time they came out on the ballroom floor. They did an astounding dance with passion and power, but very fluid movements. It was awesome.
Brandy and Maksim scored the highest for the night, a 28.
The Rock and Roll Dance Marathon, “Dancing with the Stars” Episode 11, week 6
It started as a free-for-all on the ballroom floor. The couples were challenged to end the night with a rock and roll marathon dance. All the couples danced within their spotlight until only four couple remained.
Kurt and Anna were eliminated first – adding 4 points to their final score for a total of 22.
Bristol and Mark were eliminated second – adding 5 points to their final score for 28.
Rick and Cheryl were eliminated third – adding 6 points to their score on week 6 for a total score of 30.
Kyle and Lacey were eliminated fourth – adding 7 points to their score for a final of 30.
Audrina and Tony were eliminated fifth – adding 8 points to their score for a total of 32.
Jennifer and Derek were eliminated sixth – adding 9 points to their score and leaving them with a 29.
Brandy and Maks were the champions of the rock and roll dance marathons. Brandy and Maks final score for the night was a 38.
A Word about “DWTS,” 11, episode 6
This was one of the more disappointing weeks of “DWTS.” I didn’t particularly care for the dances, the tango and the paso doble, especially combined with rock and roll music.
Obviously, I disagreed with the judges on almost every call, but hey, they are the professionals.
Prediction for “Dancing with the Stars,” season 11, episode 6 Results Show
In light of the scores from Rock and Roll Week it makes predicting who will be voted off a little more difficult than usual. Last week’s loss of Florence Henderson caught me off guard, so I’m hesitant to guess at Tuesday night’s results show.
By score alone Kurt Warner should be done this week. Personally, I would like to see Kyle Massey go home. I think we have seen all he has to offer while Kurt Warner has more to give. On the other hand, Bristol Palin improved this week, after escaping last week by the skin of her teeth.
I look for Kurt to go home. Who do you think America will send home? Who do you think should go home, and who do you want to see continue dancing?
Edit with results of show – Unbelievably, Audrina Patridge was sent home! She is one of the two or three contestants who could actually dance. I think that the judges, in pushing their very best contestants are being too hard.
Wow, I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
