The 2010 Dancing With the Stars semi-finals have yielded a very surprising set of couples for the finals. Bristol Palin, Jennifer Grey, and Kyle Massey are the three celebrities who advanced to the final week of Dancing With the Stars season 11, presenting a very interesting group that has survived. There aren’t many fans of the show who would have predicted these would be the final three couples at the beginning of the season, but here we are, with just two episodes of Dancing With the Stars left, and a seemingly clear favorite to win the show sitting at the top of the leaderboard.
The final three couples who will be performing in the finals are Grey and Derek Hough, Massey and Lacey Schwimmer, and Palin and Mark Ballas. In order to get to this point, nine couples had to be eliminated along the way, some much stronger than others. Celebrities Rick Fox, Kurt Warner, and Audrina Patridge were all eliminated in the past few weeks, but the biggest surprise for fans probably came on Tuesday night when partners Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were sent home. They seemed like a couple who could win the show, but now they will be watching the finals.
If we are arguing about which two couples were the best dancers this season, it is a conversation that would seem to have an easy answer according to the judges’ voting. Every week it was either Brandy and Chmerkovskiy or Grey and Hough at the top of the leaderboard, and it seemed like one of them would surely be raising the mirror ball trophy at the end of this season. The second dance by Brandy and Maksim during the Monday performance show yielded a perfect score, but even that wasn’t good enough for the voting audience at home on Monday night.
It’s hard to make an argument that the three best dancers from Dancing With the Stars are advancing to the finals, but maybe that isn’t what this show is about anymore. If the fans have fallen in love with Kyle Massey and want to see Bristol Palin make it all the way to the end, then who are we to argue with that? This is a show where the fans get 50 percent of the voting, and if they want to have specific people dancing in the finals, then that is exactly what’s going to happen.
Now the final three couples have to prepare their final dances, with the last night of competition taking place on Monday, Nov. 22.
