Do we really notice who we talk to when we are on a date? This was one of the questions Dateline was trying to answer tonight. They showed a bar which was having speed dating. They had a group of men and women with tables set for two. Each person would talk with someone at each table for four minutes, and try and get to know them.
This time it was going to be different. When a woman was talking to one of the men, he would act as though he had to get up and talk on the phone, but when “he” came back, it was actually someone else. The idea was to see if the woman noticed. Most of them did. Some looked confused but didn’t say anything. They were surprised when they were told it wasn’t the same person who came back to their table.
Then they tried it with the men. Only one of the men noticed. However, it seemed to me that the women looked more alike than when the men who tried to trick the women.. They also were very surprised.
It makes me realize how I don’t really notice much about people I talk to sometimes. When I go to a restaurant there have been times when I didn’t remember who the waiter or waitress was and forgot what they looked like.It was a good reminder to be mindful of who we are with, and to be in the moment instead of thinking of other things. Good show.
