The stock market is behaving like a yoyo, unemployment is up, and chances are that your wallet is feeling the effects of the economical crunch, just like everybody else’s. Many people are even picking up second jobs, in addition to other things that take up their time in order to make ends meet. However, that doesn’t mean that anyone wants to do it alone.
You don’t want to seem stingy to your snuggle buddy, but at the same time, you don’t want to put too much of a strain on your budget with all of the bills that you’ve been putting off. Trust me, you aren’t out of luck! As an experienced dater-on-a-budget, here are some dates that I’ve tried that are super fun, but still within a reasonable price range.
Date Two: Movie Night
Sometimes the funnest thing to do is to just sit and spend some quality time with someone that you care about. In this day and age, you can rent DVDs from a RedBox for $1 each! Pick out one or two movies with your sweetie that you’ll both enjoy; add a pack of popcorn for an additional couple bucks, add the ingredients for some Shirley Temples or malt beverages, and you have yourself a fun night for under $20! In addition to the sweet deal on the movies of your choice, this option beats out a movie theatre simply with its offer of privacy.
Date Two: Outdoor Excursion
What else can you say…exploring the outdoors is usually free! Pick a nice park or national forest and plan out a walk and a picnic. Ingredients for sandwiches (for two) can be purchased for under $10, plus the cost of gas. Not only will you be spending time together, but you’ll also be doing something good for yourself by getting some exercise, having your honey by your side to motivate you the whole time! This is an excellent date for the summertime, but if you go in the fall season, you can do some additional sightseeing by enjoying the beautiful autumn leaves!
Date Three: Local Concert
Depending on which city you live, there are often smaller concert venues with local bands that play for a reasonable price! If you can snag tickets for $10-$15 each, you’re in business. While you may not be able to rock out to a tune you know, it is an excellent opportunity to find some new music, and to find out what your date is into. If it turns out that the music isn’t really your style, you can always have fun by making fun of the music instead! Plus, you’ll have the memories of that one guy who tried to crowd surf–and failed–for the rest of your life.
Date Four: Midnight Bowling
Lots of bowling alleys and game arcades have special deals on bowling–and this is one has the option of double dating if you aren’t sure how personal you and your date are with each other. Places like Brunswick Zone offer $5 each deals, or the prices will reduce at bowling alleys after a certain hour. Also be on the lookout for coupons online for places like this for an even better deal. You don’t have to be a pro in order to go bowling–you can’t go wrong!
Date Five: Dance Class
Dancing is something that brings people together, and it’s super fun if you’re learning something WITH that special someone! Nothing is more romantic than encouraging each other to succeed! Dance classes may sound expensive, but often times you can pay for the classes individually, for as little as $4 per lesson, per person, depending on where you live! Some academies also offer free dance days, or offer discounts for multiple people or classes. Not only will you have a fantastic time, but you’ll also walk away with a new skill and experience!
Economic stress doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun with your significant other. Hopefully these give you a few ideas–and look, your wallet remains intact!
