Nothing beats live performed music — unless that live performed music is performed for free. Such was the case for many fans of the hard rocking North Carolina-based band Daughtry this week in New York City. Daughtry, fronted by guitarist and Top 4 American Idol finalist (Season 5) Chris Daughtry, played two venues for free on Thursday and Friday. According to “Idol Chatter,” Thursday’s show was for the workers and patrons of Jet Blue Airways, while Friday’s performance was for the people of New York City and anyone tuning into NBC’s “Today Show.”
Daughtry played a 30-minute concert at Jet Blue’s T5 terminal Thursday as part of Jet Blue’s T5 concert series. The concert was free to all Jet Blue customers and a few selected radio contest winners.
“We’re excited to have Daughtry perform as part of our Live from T5 series,” Robin Hayes, chief commercial officer at JetBlue Airways, said before the concert, “giving our customers unique entertainment experiences and the chance to see great performers live. We are committed to keeping the JetBlue experience fresh and innovative in flight and on the ground — and we know Daughtry is going to be a big hit with all the lucky people at T5 on August 19th.”
It is not clear whether or not Jet Blue’s publicists are enjoying talking about something other than wayward flight attendant Steven Slater.
After their mini-concert for Jet Blue, the five-man band performed in Rockefeller Plaza for NBC’s “Today Show.” Chris Daughtry talked about the personal aspects of his latest album, “Leave This Town,” which was a somewhat more introspective offering when compared to the harder-edged rock songs on his debut album. He also talked about the upcoming additions to his family, a set of twins that he and his wife, Deanna, were excited about.
Daughtry performed several songs from “Leave This Town,” including the first single from the album, “No Surprise,” which topped the Billboard Adult Top 40 Tracks singles chart.
If you missed the free live events, fear not. The videos from the “Today Show” can be found at “The Today Show” website and on Daughtry’s official website.
