Reality TV is making room for one more show, as A&E Television premiers The Hasselhoffs December 5, at 10 EST. Ten episodes of “real life” TV go inside the life of entertainer David Hasselhoff and his two daughters, Taylor-Ann and Haley, both of whom are in show business.
Hasselhoff, says the A&E promotional copy for the show, is the Guinness Book of World Record’s “Most Watched TV Star in the World.” This new reality show may bring a few extra viewers to “the Hoff” and make sure he keeps that title.
Hasselhoff is probably most well-known for his roles on such shows as Knight Rider, Baywatch, and a recent stint on Dancing with the Stars. His acting career started, however, on The Young and the Restless, and he returned to the show in 2010, working alongside daughter Taylor-Ann. He has also appeared on Broadway. Youngest daughter Haley Hasselhoff appeared in Huge, a television series following the lives of teen participants at a weight-loss camp.
In addition to his acting career, David Hasselhoff also has a thriving music career, with several successful albums; he performs at concerts worldwide. He is also managing his daughters’ group Bella Vida.
Weekly episodes of The Hasselhoffs will follow father and daughters through key experiences of their lives, including being on set at The Young and the Restless and Huge, into the recording studio, and to Austria, where a Hasselhoff production is underway.
It appears the only thing David Hasselhoff hasn’t been successful at was dancing…with the stars, that is. He made an early exit in the 2010 installment of the show, making it through only the first week before being eliminated.
Ten episodes of The Hasselhoffs should give viewers another glimpse into the life and career of this nearly ubiquitous entertainer, and introduce his daughters to those who don’t already know them.
Although The Hasselhoffs joins an already full schedule of reality TV, the draw of “real life” on television doesn’t seem to be waning.
Stars of other reality TV shows like Jersey Shore and Real Housewives have achieved a modicum of fame from the shows; persons who already have a share of fame have not seen their popularity diminish by the exposure, so whether The Hasselhoffs is a huge success, or as short-lived as David Hasselhoff’s Dancing With the Stars appearance, David, Taylor-Ann, and Haley Hasselhoff are likely to be in our consciousness, if not on our TV screens, for a while to come.
Fans of David Hasselhoff, reality TV, or those who are simply curious, should set their DVRs to include A&E Television Sunday evenings at 10 eastern time. Others, like myself, should go about their business unaware.
