September 25th marks the day of Santa Clarita’s Day for kids. This free event is located at Newhall Park and takes place September 25 from noon until 5 p.m. This carnival includes fun filled activities like rides, games, raffle contests and free food. This event is meant to “honor kids” and is in conjunction with The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
One highlight is the Day for Kids art contest. The contest, with the theme Kids Love, is coordinated by Picasso’s Playmates. The contest rules and guidelines are as follows: artwork must be in a two dimensional form like a drawing or a collage. Although it is okay to give verbal instruction, the artwork should be completely done by the child, grades K-12 only. Additionally, the artwork should be signed by the child, matted and no larger than 16 by 20. There is a $10.00 entry fee and submission deadline of 5:00 pm on September 17, 2010. The contest is a great opportunity for kids to show their love for art. See the website for more details.
According to hometownstation.com, food vendors, event sponsors and activity booths are still needed. In the past, “participants have offered video games, outdoor laser tag, magic performances, arts and crafts, a bean bag toss, pony rides, celebrity autographs” and more. Some of the food given out has been hot dogs, apple slices and smoothies.
For those interested in having a booth at the event, it is necessary to fill out a community participant application. As a participant, the community groups should provide a “children’s activity, game or craft. ” This should not be a time to use the event as an expo. Each organization is required to have a child’s prize to give away during the event.
Newhall Park is located at 24907 Newhall Avenue between Hart High School and Placerita Junior High. For more about the day for kids call 661-254-2582 or go to santa-clarita.com.
