Are you tired of your bathroom feeling too small? Are you embarrassed when people ask to use the bathroom because it is so cluttered? Here are some tips that will help you make the most of your space and get rid of the clutter. Whether you are renovating your bathroom or just looking for ways to get the most out of the bathroom you have there is a solution to help everyone.
Tips for bathroom renovations
If you are renovating your bathroom or building an extra one it is probably because you need more space. To make the most of your new bathroom space be sure to take advantage of smaller versions of needed items. A smaller toilet will not make much of a difference in comfort but will help tremendously to save space in your bathroom. Also look for the smallest vanity available for your sink to sit in. A bigger vanity is just more tempting to clutter up and a smaller vanity will give you the much needed space to install storage.
For storage install an over the toilet shelf preferably with doors that you cannot see through. This way what clutter you do have can be hidden. Most over the toilet shelves also have a shelf that you can use to put a few display items on like candles or other knickknacks and you can put a bigger decorative item on the very top of the shelf itself. These items look much nicer on a shelf system that is nicely organized than just sitting on a too large vanity.
For inside the shower a corner shelf mounted with a tension rod is a must for shampoos and body wash. Be sure to replace a shower shelf every few years because these types of shelves do end up rusting and if too much weight is on an old one it will fall and could hurt you.
The principle of saving space by buying a smaller toilet can also be applied to your clutter. Buy smaller items such as hairdryers and hair straighteners. You can find just of good of a hairdryer in a smaller version and save space.
Reduce clutter by buying less personal items. If you have more than one person using your bathroom share shampoo, conditioner, and body wash instead of each person having a different bottle of each which will really clutter up your shower shelf. Are you one of those people that just love to collect free samples of shampoo and things and then clutter up your bathroom storage by storing them for years and never using them? Me too. Remove this clutter by using them. To make sure you do, put your regular bottle of whatever type of item it is (i.e. body wash) and put in under the sink and then make the sample readily available by putting it on your shower shelf until it is used. Do not forget where you put your regular bottle and buy a new one however or you will just be adding to your bathroom clutter!
Organize your items to reduce clutter. Label drawers or organizational baskets. If there are several people using your bathroom label each drawer with a person’s name so they keep their items in their own drawer. Or you can label drawers according to use such as dental care supplies like extra toothbrushes floss etc. or hair styling items. If you know where all your items are you will be less tempted to buy more just because you can’t find something. One of the biggest reasons for clutter is disorganization.
You do not need several types of bathroom cleaner under your bathroom sink to keep your bathroom clean. If you have a separate cleaner for your mirror, sink, shower and bathroom floor stored under your sink no wonder you have bathroom clutter issues. You can easily keep you bathroom clean with either just one all purpose bathroom cleaner or just some white vinegar. Look online for water to vinegar ratios needed for mirrors and other surfaces, not only will vinegar keep your bathroom just as clean it is much better for the environment than hazardous cleaners that can also be harmful to your health. If you never seem to use all your baking soda before the expiration date just move it to your bathroom and use to clean your toilet bowl after it expires. It will still work very well to make your toilet shine with minimal effort.
Reduce some of the bathroom clutter associated with kids by buying items designed to reduce clutter. If you have a child who is potty training buy a two in one potty seat which has a smaller seat section for smaller bottoms that can lift up into the lid when an adult uses the bathroom. This will keep your bathroom free from extra potty seats. For toys buy a small basket that can easily fit on top of your child’s step stool when not in use or buy a step stool with toy storage inside it. Keep children’s toothbrushes off the counter by buying a toothbrush holder that suctions to the wall.
Using these tips will help you keep your bathroom clutter free and make it a space you enjoy showing off instead of dreading when visitors ask to use the bathroom.
