According to People.com, the Hillstrand brothers – Andy and Johnathan – have pulled out of the hit reality show, Deadliest Catch. This news comes after the Discovery Channel sued the brothers for not keeping their end of the deal on a new spin-off show. A third captain, Sig Hansen, has also resigned from the show, presumably based on loyalty to his fellow crab-fishermen. As we all remember, Captain Phil Harris died earlier this year due to complications from a stroke.
The Hillstrands were always an entertaining bunch to watch. Their brotherly interactions were usually more comical than anything else. Once in a while, Johnathan would snap at one of the deckhands, but for the most part, the scenes were full of pranks and lightheartedness. Johnathan was also close to Captain Phil Harris and stayed by his side until the end.
Last season of the show was wrought with emotions, and fans were looking forward to a new season, hoping that the show would bring back the entertainment value that it used to have. Captain Sig Hansen notoriously argued with brother Edgar over how to do his job, and Edgar gave hints that he would be leaving his life of crab fishing behind soon. With Sig now off of the show, are we to lose his brother and all of the other characters from his ship?
People.com is reporting that Phil Harris’ sons, Josh and Jake, planned to return for the new season. They are anxious to continue the legacy that their father created, not to mention the fact that they have a boat-load (pun intended) of crew members that depend on them. The challenges that these young men will face could be interesting to watch. But, with the four main captains out of the picture, there won’t be much to draw in the viewers. Perhaps Discovery should have thought a little harder before they decided to sue the Hillstrand brothers.
